When is The Odyssey on streaming? The short answer is you might be waiting a while... Christopher Nolan's latest epic is just hitting theaters in July 2026 as it follows Matt Damon's King of Ithaca as he attempts a perilous journey home. Spanning mythical lands and brutal encounters, he tries to make it back to his wife and son following the end of the Trojan War.
Filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, Nolan made the movie for the big screen. It's been sold out for weeks in IMAX 70mm and you'll struggle to get your hands on an IMAX ticket for a little while. As a result, don't expect it to be arriving on digital release or streaming any time soon.
However, if you are planning longer ahead, we do have some idea about when it might make the journey to the small screen. Below, we get into some speculation about when it might arrive on Peacock (Universal's streaming platform) based on Nolan's typical theatrical release windows and previous movies. Let's get stuck in...
The Odyssey streaming release date speculation
The Odyssey does not currently have a streaming release date. This means the only place you're going to be able to watch the Christopher Nolan movie is in theaters. We expect this to stay this way for quite some time, too.
Nolan is a huge champion of theatrical releases and The Odyssey is a movie made for the big screen. Filmed with state-of-the-art cameras to optimise viewing in IMAX, the intention is for The Odyssey to be seen in theaters, so Nolan will be focusing on this for as long as possible.
In fact, it's one of the reasons that the filmmaker stopped working with Warner Bros. and began working with Universal. Back in 2021, it was confirmed by Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley that they would keep at least a 100-day window between theatrical and digital release (H/T Screen Daily).
This means that the earliest that The Odyssey will be available on digital is late October 2025. However, in reality, we expect this to be a little bit longer.
Oppenheimer is a good marker of how long it might take. The Oscar-winning movie was first released in theaters on July 21, 2023. It was only released digitally and physically on November 22, 2023. Then it finally made it to streaming on Peacock on February 16, 2024.
We don't know for certain that The Odyssey will follow the exact same trajectory but it seems quite likely that we'll see something similar. Based on this, we expect the film could come out on digital release on PVOD platforms in late November 2026 before arriving on streaming in late February/early March 2027.
