Weeks after an AI adaptation of The Odyssey was announced, the filmmakers have been doing the rounds to clarify where their movie stands in relation to Christopher Nolan's epic. Director Ash Koosha has clarified that they're not trying to pit their film up against the new film.
"One thing we want to clear up is that we're not going against Christopher Nolan," Koosha told The Hollywood Reporter. "He's doing what he’s doing in the old world of cinema. And he does it brilliantly. But there's room for something in the new world."
The director, who is also behind a recently-released AI movie called Dreams of Violent, added: "I'm an Odyssey fan since I was a little kid – I learned about Nolan's movie from a Homer-focused Reddit. I've been immersed in all the questions about all the details, like Agamemnon's outfits and everything else. My goal is not to make a movie that is the same as his. It's to use the tools to make my own version of the story."
Not a great deal has been confirmed yet about what they're covering in their version of this story. However, it's been created by AI production company Fountain 0 and will be 135-minutes long. Called Odysseus: The Fall, it will be available to rent and buy on their website, but the filmmakers have not revealed when it will be available.
Koosha's collaborator and brother Pooya Koosha added to The Hollywood Reporter that they "want to wait a while, at least until late summer" as they "don’t want people to feel overloaded and confused. That's important to us."
Producer Tom Rogers added: "We could have released it now but we’re not trying to trick people. We want them to be able to clearly compare."
Meanwhile, The Odyssey has debuted to an impressive box office, taking $264m globally during its opening weekend. Reviews have also been glowing with the film becoming Nolan's highest rated movie of his career so far.
