Dwayne Johnson insists the new Jumanji is "a continuation, not a reboot"

Dwayne Johnson wrapped filming on Fast 8 this week, but unsurprisingly the hardest working man in Hollywood is not taking much time off. In an Instagram post thanking his Fast 8 co-stars the actor also made sure to include an update on Jumanji, which starts shooting in two weeks:

"In two weeks I’ll reunite with ol’ friends Kevin Hart and Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of Jumanji. For the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome Jumanji story. It’s also crazy to me how much me, Kev and Jack look like triplets when we’re together… Man this is gonna be FUN".

Going the "continuation" route as opposed to a reboot is definitely the smarter move here, as it gives the filmmakers more freedom to tell a new story while still  referencing the classic Robin Williams film. With filming due to start soon, hopefully we'll get a better idea of what exactly that new story is sooner rather than later.

Directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart, Jumanji will be released in cinemas on July 28, 2017.
