Childminders rejoice: the formulaic but family-friendly series is back and it’s business as usual, as teenage troublemaker Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) sets out to spend his summer break playing video games and going gaga over fellow pupil Holly (Peyton List).

Steve Zahn, returning as Greg’s father, overacts as if he’s in a Looney Tunes cartoon.

But with adolescent antics aplenty, fans won’t care – not least as Greg’s older brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick) finally unleashes his crap metal band Löded Diper on us.
