Defense Grid: The Awakening didn’t make the biggest splash in 2009, but it was one of our favorites and remains a stellar example of the tower defense genre. Though there was some DLC released for it last year, we pretty much assumed the game had seen its final real update. That’s changing very soon as this Wednesday the game is getting its first update in a long time, and it’s a doozy, with Portal-themed stages and an appearance by GLaDOS.

Defense Grid: You Monster takes the wave-based RTS to the realm of Aperture Science, as Valve has once again helpfully lent out one of its huge franchises to a smaller developer. The download includes eight new maps in the Portal 2 testing areas, 35 new challenges, as well as new Achievements. It hits PC and XBLA December 7 and will cost $4.99/400 MS Points. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for the battle of disembodied computer voices as GLaDOS faces off with Defense Grid’s English-accented Entity. Our bets are on Caroline.
