Daniel Brhl reveals Baron Zemo is different from the comic books in Civil War

While all the Civil War talk has revolved around the battle lines drawn between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, it's been easy to forget that Daniel Brühl’s Baron Zemo will actually be the film’s primary antagonist. Brühl has been talking to Business Insider about the role, and reveals that his character will be a little different to the version we know from the comic books.

"He does not wear the mask," says Brühl in reference to Zemo’s signature purple face-wear. In the comics, this accessory hails from Zemo’s time in the Nazi party, when a super-sticky adhesive he created was accidentally spilled over his face, leaving him permanently masked. Understandably, it’s something the Russo brothers have been happy to cut.

"You would be surprised," says Brühl of his role, "it’s different than what you’d think. It’s loosely connected to this character. But that’s what I like about the Marvel guys, some of the characters and things they’re dealing with always reference to current events so my character is from a different area than you would think." We can look forward to seeing Brühl in action when the film opens in the UK on April 29 2016 and the US on May 6 2016.
