A fantastic new trailer for Captain America: Civil War landed online earlier this month, and there was one scene in particular that set the internet alight - the reveal of Tom Holland's brand new Spider-Man.
In an interview with Forbes, Civil War co-director Joe Russo noted that "We always intended to (reveal him that way)", while Anthony Russo went into a little detail on how Spider-Man fits in to the story; "Part of the fun of Spider-Man is that this film is basically a war amongst the Avengers and Spidey does not have the baggage that all these other characters have. He enters the story after the conflict that is happening between the Avengers and that gives him a very unique place in the story."
It's fair to say that the reaction to Spider-Man's new costume has been mixed, and the Russos knew that it was "always going to be controversial. I think there are things that people will discover when they see the film about why the suit operate the way it does, why the eyes move, all that stuff is substantiated... At the end of the day, the purpose here is to deliver a Spider-Man that people will shit themselves over."
Article continues belowPersonally, I'm a fan of the new Steve Ditko inspired Spider-suit, and I'm excited to see what other changes the Russos have made to the way it functions. The trailer definitely has him on team Iron Man - who more than likely helped Spidey with the suit - but will that still be the case by the time the credits roll?
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War opens in UK cinemas on April 29, 2016 and May 6, 2016 in the US.
