Prometheus sequel expected to land in 2014 or 2015

Prometheus hasn’t even made its way from the cinema to DVD and Blu-ray yet, but already 20th Century Fox is making plans for a follow-up.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that director Ridley Scott is “actively pushing forward” with a sequel that should hit screens in either 2014 or 2015.

It should come as no surprise that Fox want to keep this franchise alive – Prometheus was easily one of the most talked-about films of the year, and had a very healthy box office turnover of $302m worldwide.

One thing that may be different with the follow-up, though, is the writer. Prometheus scribe Damon Lindelof may not be available for the sequel, so Fox may have to look elsewhere for somebody to ink the screenplay.

Not that Scott’s wanting for ideas; he’s already confirmed that he knows “where it’s going. I know that to keep [ David ] alive is essential and to keep [ Elizabeth ] alive is essential and to go where they came from, not where I came from, is essential.”

With the director also about to tackle Blade Runner 2 , he’s obviously going to be kept busy for the next couple of years. And despite Prometheus ’ occasional shortcomings, there's no denying it was one of the artiest blockbusters we've seen in a long time - we can’t wait to see where Scott will take the Alien -verse next.
