After a few months of speculation, word is officially in via The Hollywood Reporter: Alicia Vikander is going to play posh archaeologist Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider film.
Rumors had been swirling for a while that The Force Awakens lead Daisy Ridley was in talks for the role, but this report confirms that Vikander, whose previous year in film included stellar work in Ex Machina as well as her Oscar-winning turn in The Danish Girl, will lead the MGM/Warner Bros/GK Films picture.
The upcoming film will also act as a reboot of sorts for the film franchise, which had previously been headed up by Hollywood mega-star Angelina Jolie over two films. The simply named Tomb Raider "will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure", according to the report. Which… sounds a heck of a lot like the plot of the 2013 video game reboot. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
