No Strings Attached sleeps its way to the top

no strings attached

Though it’s not exactly earned rave reviews, there’s no doubting No Strings Attached and its performance – at the US box office, we mean.

The Ashton Kutcher-Natalie Portman sizzler about two friends who attempt to have a commitment-free relationship bounced to the top of the charts this weekend with $20m.

We’re sure the film’s red band trailer – replete with dirty jokes and a fair amount of flesh – helped draw in audiences.

Meanwhile, last week’s victor The Green Hornet proved it still had sting, debunking to second place with $18m, while The Dilemma held firm in third with $9.7m.

The King’s Speech also continued to do well on the other side of the pond in fourth ($9.1m), and the Coen brothers’ Western True Grit rounded out the top five with $8m (and a massive total of $138m).

Nearby, Natalie Portman’s other film Black Swan seethed in sixth ($6.2m), The Fighter punched lights out in seventh ($4.5m), and Little Fockers went nowhere in eighth ($4.3m). We expect Wrinkly Fockers to stagger along shortly.

Finally, Yogi Bear kept the nippers entertained in ninth ($4m), while Tron: Legacy refused to leave the charts in tenth ($3.7m).
