The first Nintendo Direct after Iwata's passing is on Thursday

The first Nintendo Direct in a world without Satoru Iwata will be broadcast on Thursday. Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata is set to appear in the European broadcast starting at 10 pm GMT, while Nintendo of America's broadcast will begin simultaneously at 2 pm PST.

It won't be the same without Iwata's good-natured goofiness at the helm, but it's reassuring to see Nintendo carry on in his absence after a few months of quiet. The company has a relatively sparse release calendar this year, but I'd expect to see some news about Yo-Kai Watch and Xenoblade Chronicles X, which is set to be released on December 4 in North America and Europe.

We may get an update on Zelda Wii U if we're lucky, since it ducked out of E3 earlier this year. And don't expect any news on Nintendo's mysterious console successor. The company's said several times that it won't have more to say about NX until 2016.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
