***UPDATE: Dormammu, Firebrand, and Ghost Rider have been added to the roster following their confirmation at Gamescom!***

It's official - Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will have 30 characters to choose from at launch, with six more added later on via DLC. Unfortunately, the roster is mostly made up of familiar faces, including many direct ports from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - but if there's any silver lining, it's that you'll already have some muscle memory for those special moves and go-to combos. In anticipation of MvCI's September 19, 2017 release date, we've listed all the confirmed fighters right here - Marvel characters on the first page, Capcom characters on the second - so you can start planning who you're going to play. We'll be sure to update this Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite roster as soon as the incoming DLC characters have been officially revealed.

Marvel characters

Here are all the Marvel characters in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. You can find the Capcom characters on the next page!

  • An image from Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls showing four heroes teaming up together. 4v4 fighter Marvel Tokon will reportedly only have 20 fighters at launch, and not everyone is happy

Captain America

You can't help but love Captain America's stalwart patriotism and cool-headed leadership, whether he's leading the way in comics, films, or games. Cap's been a mainstay of all the MvC games, using his star-spangled shield to smack opponents from afar or rushing in with powerful Charging Star shoulder-checks, and hearing him shout mid-fight exclamations for moves like "Stars and stripes!" and "Final justice!" is always a hoot. Looks like he'll be holding things down for the USA in much the same way as before.

Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Avengers: Infinity War, so she fits nicely as a promising newcomer in MvC:I. It looks like Captain Marvel could play similarly to Nova from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, with the ability to hover in the air then slam down for a beefy combo before incinerating her opponent with flames blasting from her hands.

Doctor Strange

The dashing Doctor Strange is a master at manipulating space, boxing in opponents with magic mines and slow-moving or delayed projectiles. As ever, his Spell of Vishanti hyper move is amazing for punishing enemy attacks from any distance, and the Sorcerer Supreme's teleportation and floaty movement in the air makes him difficult to pin down.

Dormammu

Dormammu got his MCU due as the ultimate villain in Doctor Strange, but he's long been known to wreak havoc in the world of MvC3. This interdimensional demon/demigod can punish mistakes from almost anywhere on the screen, making the opponent's life a living hell if you can master Dormammu's multitude of offensive and defensive options. All it takes is a handful of energy pillars bursting from the ground and a quick trip to the Dark Dimension to chunk down your enemy's health bar in the blink of an eye.

Gamora

As Thanos' daughter and a Guardian of the Galaxy, Gamora is no stranger to cosmic, super-powered combat, using her Godslayer sword and twin laser pistols to dole out the hurt. It looks like she'll be a rushdown specialist in MvC:I, able to dash across the screen with blade attacks and cover her aerial approach with downward aimed lasers and arced sword slashes.

Ghost Rider

Daring stuntman-turned-skull-headed anti-hero Johnny Blaze returns to ensure that MvC:I's roster gets a healthy dose of hellfire. He retains his same quirky mix of long-range normals and hard-to-see special attacks using his trademark chain whip, which can easily clip your legs if you're not paying attention and bounce your fighter around the screen between searing grabs and Ghost Rider's pillars of fire.

Hawkeye

Clint Barton is making a comeback after his breakout role in UMvC3, where he perfectly catered to the projectile-heavy keepaway playstyle with his endless volley of souped-up arrows. He's ditched his classic costume for the more reserved design from the modern comics for MvC:I, but he's just as nimble and adept at controlling space.

Hulk

Hulk's been smashing his way through any opposition across tons of Versus games, and his status as an unflinching heavy-hitter with ridiculous combo damage made him a powerful threat in UMvC3, especially when used by former EVO champion Nicolas "KaneBlueRiver" Gonzalez. Expect this half-naked green giant to continue pummeling faces and cracking the Earth with Gamma Wave upheavals in MvC:I.

Iron Man

Tony Stark's always a popular pick among casual players in Capcom's Versus games, largely for the gigantic, screen-covering laser beam of the shoulder-mounted Proton Cannon, the high-tech armored Avenger's most famous Hyper Combo attack. Iron Man should play just like past iterations, using uniquely angled projectiles and palm-blasts to control space and create an in for further damage.

Nova

Richard Ryder reps the Nova Corps once more for MvC:I, with a heavy-hitting, close-quarters playstyle that looks identical to his UMvC3 debut. Nova has some spiffy air combos with his hovering Flight special, can easily clip your legs with his full-screen dash kicks if you're not careful, and the giant laser from his Gravimetric Blaster hyper can chunk down your health bar lickety split.

Rocket Raccoon

Rocket was a surprise hit in UMvC3, earning him some much deserved recognition years before his appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. His classic look and cockney accent have been understandably replaced with his orange jumpsuit and a Bradley Cooper sound-alike to emulate the hit movies, but he'll likely still benefit from his giant guns, crafty trap setups, and his small, hard-to-combo stature. Plus, he's got specials moves and supers that tag in the ever-lovable Groot.

Spider-Man

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is a staple of Marvel games, and he's always had a strong presence in Capcom's crossover fighters with his impressive agility and tricky special moves. Spidey's speedy attacks and web-swinging mixups make him particularly tricky, and the brief stun induced by a successful Web Ball hit creates the perfect opportunity to launch into a combo or tag in his teammate.

Thanos

We haven't seen Thanos since his underappreciated inclusion in MvC2 - but the Infinity Stone-coveting big bad is back (though he might not have that goofy bubble special move this time around). Thanos looks like something of a frenemy in MvC:I's story mode, released from captivity by our heroes in order to combat the equally powerful Ultron-Sigma.

Thor

Thor was something of a dark horse in the original MvC3 and its follow-up, able to dole out serious damage but suffering from clunky specials and a sluggish movespeed in a game full of lightning-fast fighters. It looks like his playstyle is the same in MvC:I, thwacking opponents with his mighty Mjolnir hammer and getting in close for powerful command grabs, so hopefully Capcom's made some tweaks to make Thor more viable for the masses.

Ultron

This evil 'bot gained a lot more notoriety after his turn as the main villain of Avengers: Age of Ultron, so he's been upgraded to final boss status for MvC:I after a fusion with the cybernetic big bad Sigma from the Mega Man X universe. Ultron can summon minions made in his image to dogpile his opponent or fire a lateral lasers from offscreen similar to Dr. Doom's trusty Plasma Beam assist in UMvC3.
