A grand adventure is teased in trailer for Steven Spielberg's The BFG

Steven Spielberg returns to his blockbuster roots for Disney's adaptation of The BFG. Based on the classic Roald Dahl story about a young girl's experience journeying to a strange and magical land, the film carries forward Spielberg's unofficial mission statement: bringing fantasy to life for children and adults alike.

The film stars newcomer Ruby Thornhill as a young orphan named Sophie who befriends The BFG. Mark Rylance plays the big friendly giant who whisks Sophie away to Giant Country - it's only when they arrive that she realises that her pal is a gentle soul amongst a race of craggy-faced giants. And those grumps aren't too pleased about her presence.

That's quite a first-hand look (ba-dum-tisch) and an exciting introduction for audiences into the world created by Dahl over thirty years ago. Co-starring Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader and Penelope Wilton, The BFG opens in the US on July 1, 2016 followed by a UK release on July 22.
