Fox delays Channing Tatum's Gambit spin-off movie (again) while script gets rewritten

It took a long time for Deadpool to finally make its way to cinemas, and with the film having broken a ton of records on its way to a global box office of $750 million, it's safe to say that Fox is reaping the benefits. Fox's other X-Men spin-off movie is faring less well; Gambit was initially due out in cinemas this October but has been hit with a series of delays, and now it looks like we're going to be kept waiting a little longer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gambit won't start shooting until December 2016 due to extensive script rewrites. In the meantime, the film's director Doug Liman is looking to keep busy by calling the shots on another feature film before production begins. As for Channing Tatum's co-star Lea Seydoux, the delay makes her involvement unclear.

Fox is clearly determined to make Gambit happen, but I'm starting to lose faith in this one. Although the mutant is a fan-favourite, out of all the (many) superhero movies on the way Gambit is easily the least intriguing. Luckily for Fox, they can still mine the very successful X-Men and Deadpool franchises if Gambit isn't in the cards.

Directed by Doug Liman and starring Channing Tatum, Gambit will likely be hitting cinemas in 2018.
