Carrie Fisher dies, aged 60: "She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly"

Carrie Fisher has passed away aged 60, according to a statement from her daughter Billie Lorde. The actress was best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.

The statement, issued to People, reads:

Fisher suffered a 'massive' heart attack on a flight from London to LA on December 23. At the time she was reportedly removed from the plane in an 'unresponsive' state. Paramedics performed CPR and later restored a pulse.

Her brother, Todd Fisher, later issued a statement that she was "out of emergency" and in a stable condition. A message mirrored by her mother, Debbie Reynolds, in a tweet on Christmas Day. Sadly, she later died in hospital.
