Yes, it’s BAFTA time again, and we couldn’t be happier if they’d decided to hand us our own award for being so bloody lovely.
It’s a strong year for the ladies of BAFTA, with The Queen bagging the most noms – ten in total – and this year’s Best Actress contest looking particularly tough.
Volver’s Penelope Cruz (who’ll add her nom to a stack of best actress accolades, making her a near-cert for an Oscar nod) will face-off against fellow Golden Globe nominee Little Children’s Kate Winslet and the holy trinity of Helen Mirren, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep (for The Queen, Notes On A Scandal and The Devil Wears Prada respectively).
But don’t worry boys, you’ve done all right – Casino Royale sees Bond hanging about just behind The Queen with nine noms (including Best Actor for Daniel Craig). Brit legends Richard Griffiths and Peter O’Toole also turn up in the acting bit and Paul Greengrass has the chance to add to his Best Director critics awards (from San Francisco and Los Angeles, if you’re curious) for his stunning United 93.
All in all, it’s a great collection of folk – we only wish everyone could take something home. But then that’s because we're so bloody lovely, right BAFTA?
