Videogames have been getting an awful lot of tie-in comics lately. We get it; how better to fill in the gaps between games or even introduce new IP than with a funny book, what with pictures in it and all? Well, we probably could think of a better way (or two), but behold! A prequel comic book for the upcoming Batman: Arkham City. It actually makes sense!
The six-issue series will be written by Batman: The Animated Series writer and frequent Batman comic scribe Paul Dini and drawn by Arkham City/Arkham Asylum concept artist Carlos D’anda (who also does his share of monthly comic book work). Check out the first cover:
The story will take place one year after the events of Arkham Asylum and will involve Arkham Warden turned Gotham City mayor Quincy Sharp as he establishes “Arkham City,” a wide-open area in the heart of Gotham where inmates can roam free as they recover. This, of course, is a great idea.
Article continues belowThe first two issues will be released in May, and for a little extra comic prequel goodness, each issue will be available digitally as well as in print. DC Comics has also announced 99-cent 8-page digital interludes written by Dini and drawn by various artists that will focus on individual villains from Batman’s rogues gallery. These will be released in between the regular issues, and will alsobe compiled into the eventual Arkham City collected edition book.
So you see, Batman is a comic book character. Arkham City is an upcoming game starring that comic book character. There’s going to be a prequel comic book featuring Batman. With us so far? It’s a prequel comic starring a comic book character. It’s ok for blown minds to sit down for a spell.
