Rumour: Angelina Jolie to play Bride of Frankenstein?

Angelina Jolie looks set to appear as one of horror's all time iconic characters, with news she's about to accept the title role in Universal's The Bride of Frankenstein reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ange is said to be the studio's ideal choice to front the reimagining of the classic 1935 movie and, in truth, the role would be one of Jolie's most interesting to date. Apparently, the actor has two choices at the moment: either commit to this or opt for a sequel to the 2008 action flick Wanted.

However, it's been suggested that the Salt star is tied - via an obligation to Universal - to do The Bride of Frankenstein because they were the ones responsible for allowing her and hubby Brad Pitt to make their passion project By the Sea - a film that, to put it kindly, was slaughtered by the critics.

Because of this relationship with Universal, and the fact they also backed her directorial effort Unbroken last year, she's not only is indebted to them, but has the chance to stamp her identity on a culturally iconic character. Not only that, but it's likely Universal sat up and paid attention when her role in Disney's Maleficent was a huge hit with audiences, amassing over $750 million at the box office.

While the role of the Bride in the original offered very little screen time for a title character, it's thought that if Jolie does get involved, the script will be tweaked and, dare we say, reworked for modern audiences so she's more prominent in the film.
