Zombi U gameplay footage is actually pretty scary

Real horror in video games has been incredibly hard to come by in the last decade or so. The Silent Hill 2's of the world have been replaced by games like Dead Space and Left 4 Dead which emphasize action over scares. This new trailer for ZombiU gives us hope for the project despite its admittedly ridiculous title.

Not bad, right? We need to learn a lot more about the game before making a final judgment, but our first looks have been fairly promising. We kind of wish they didn't opt for the boogeyman pop-up scare at 2:07 though. The rest of the trailer had such good tension that it was completely unnecessary and undermined the low-key tone the rest of the trailer cultivates.

ZombiU is currently sounding like it will end up being a WiiU launch title, and could end up being one of the marquee titles when the system hits retail later this year.

Anyone else feel that having to look at a separate screen to perform certain tasks will break the tension of the game?

Andrew... horror games are scarce to come by "in the last decade?" Amnesia? The free game Slender? Pnumbra? All great title, and all either cheap or, as stated, free. Also, why even talk about Left 4 Dead as a "horror" game? It's a co-op shooter--made by the ever-humorous Valve--with zombies in it. Not much "horror" to be had there in the first place. Grievances aside, this title is looking pretty good. Not good enough to justify the purchase of a new console stuck in the previous generation, but good enough to warrant a play if ever I can get one.

    This looks good...for a Wii U game

Not sure if trolling.... or just ignorantly stupid

Kind of annoyingly dark in places, but I can dig the atmosphere. Like how the player actually dies at the end because he didn't finish off the zombie. Hope they don't mess it up. Ramp up the scaryness (and not jump-scares) a bit and it might come close to Condemned 1

I agree with the others saying that this isn't enough to make them buy a Wii U. The next generation is just arround the corner but Nintendo wants us to buy their console and be stuck in this generation for even longer? Regardless of popularity or sales figures.. I personally got sick of Nintendo after the Wii. I absolutely love my Nintendo DS lite to death and I wouldn't trade it for the world. There are still good games coming out for it but the 3DS is just bollocks as far as I'm concerned. The 3D effect doesn't really change the game very much and the single *circle pad* is crap and it seems like they didn't learn anything from the PSP. They should've noticed Sony almost giving up with the 3D push in games but they decided to steam ahead and then ended up having to rape the price in order to get it to sell. Unfortunately, I can see the Wii U selling well, just because it's Nintendo and people will buy it without even thinking twice. I think it's bollocks but there are plenty of people who disagree so... oh well as long as noone is forcing me to buy it then I'm not bothered I guess. :)

Damn. That was impressive. I want it. Too bad I don't really want the Wii U, or have the money for one.

I really like the blotchy screen effect, makes it seem as though your playing through the eyes of someone wearing a pair of dirty glasses

Man I really like what I saw, but just one good game isn't going to make me want to buy the Wii U.

Good, Lets hope Nintendo keeps it up and keeps letting more Mature games get promotion on their platforms

Looks really great. I do love the concept in ZombieU of perma-death and every life being a separate character. This is the only game on the roster that I'll miss when I don't buy this system I'd say.

Looks good but it's going to take a lot more than one zombie game to justify this system. It seems either people are getting bored with the Nintendo's gimmicks (see 3DS launch until they dropped the price $80) it is going to be all down to price point. No matter how awesome Mario is to play over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
