"I think in the shooter genre or RPG genre, or any of these established genres people get stuck in a rut, they're inspired by other games that are the same. Variety writes: "Army of Two is the latest videogame heading to the big screen.

As Variety reporter Michael Fleming and I are reporting in tomorrow's paper (read the story here), EA has licensed the rights to Universal, which has set Scott Z. Burns ("The Bourne Ultimatum") to write the script.

In an interesting twist, EA is actually attached as a producer on the film (along with Scott Stuber, who was previously attached to produce the "Halo" movie, amongst many other projects). As I was writing yesterday, EA is getting very active in film licensing recently and being attached as a producer gives it a whole higher level of involvement in how the end product turns out."

Ripten reports that Variety have recently interviewed EA games label president Frank Gibeau and Dead Space executive producer Glenn Schofield, who revealed that there are sequels in the works for some of EA's biggest games. Gibeau stated that there is a "sequel idea planned" for Army of Two and a Battlefield: Bad Company. We can only hope that the sequel for Army of Two is called "Army of TwoTwo (TuTu)". Also mentioned was that a sequel to Dead Space, EA's recently released horror shooter, was already in the works, and that ideas for a Dead Space movie were in the pipeline as well.

The NPD Group has released the latest 360 software sales figures for the U.S.A., and there are a couple of surprises in there. While no one's going to be confused by a top three consisting of GTAIV, Call of Duty IV and Madden, the games in fourth and fifth place are Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Army of Two, respectively. If nothing else this comprehensively proves that Americans really, really like guns.

But it also proves that in the face of being the only new franchise in the top five and receiving merely good-to-average review scores, Army of Two still went on to sell some 900,000 copies in the US. Our guess is that to some the lure of co-op is so strong it makes the game itself seem like virtual wrapping paper. Brr.

Not least because of their aggressive buyout of top developers such as Pandemic, Bullfrog and such like, but also the tendency for them to invest huge amounts of money in acquiring licenses only to produce a bunch of shovelware that sits atop the festive gaming charts year in year out.

As if that wasn't bad enough - EA are now beginning to attempt to 'strangle' the second hand games market.
