Xbox Live experiencing technical difficulties

More bad news for online gamers. At least, online gamers with no games to play. Microsoft is now reporting significant service issues for certain segments of the Xbox Live Marketplace which ... (*quickly checks system) ... yup, are still affecting the Games for Windows-Live Marketplace, Indie Games, and some Games Marketplace functions.

At time of print, both the Indie Games and Games for Windows stores were missing from their usual online hang-out, and attempts to access the Indie Games portal online yields an error message.  Matchmaking services, account sign-in and general Xbox Live features are being reported as “up and running” on the Xbox Support page.

Foul play or minor glitch in the system? We're pretty sure this will be patched up soon. In the meantime, please amuse us with your conspiracy theories.

@Modroneman lol psn isn't stupid it's a thing not a person. Blame the hackers, and you never know, maybe XBL will go offline very soon for a very long time (but probly not).

System problems simply come with the technology. I'm HOPING this isn't a hack, and if it is I hope Microsoft is quick to tell us.

Halo reach was put on GAMES ON DEMAND, Aswell as a halo reach demo. The demo was actually the FULL GAME, and they were quick too fix it, its not the first time, It happens to some DLC that comes out, It did it for Dead money, early purchasers got dead money for free, the points were not deducted from the accounts. I've read this on quite a few websites already, And its weird a demo comes out almost 2 years later lol......

@PS3 fanboys Just an FYI, online gaming is up and running, as is netflix and hulu. It's just a part of the marketplace that's down (and it's not a large part either). I'd say this is a bit less serious. This type of thing does happen from time to time, but I'm guessing that this was the first time it earned an article due to the PSN fracas.

Microsoft told us when the problem happened, and the service is still up, Netflix and Hulu+ are still up, so I think they get a pass. Unlike Sony, Mircosoft actually kept their panties up.

@Nemesis2k9 Well partially for the reason of LAN gaming dieing. Is the original concept of the LAN party was to hang out with friends because everyones' connection sucked in those dark times. Also a bigger reason to keep in mind why there is less LAN like gaming is people using a second, third, or fourth controller. It is users using another console and thus not paying the business. The company is not making any money over people who are couch gaming with their buddies. Also a lot of people just dislike split screen in general. They hate the limited vision, the slowing down of the console, because it is running the game twice and the game doesn't look as good. I do miss couch gaming and LAN parties though. I feel your pain.

Here's something I'd be shocked to see on Ars Tech! Ben is probably, "Walk away, folks. Nothing to see here!".

At crazy xbox fanboys(anyone remember "xboxrules") : Serves you right! At everyone else: hope the situation is fixed soon. Not being able to play online games when most or all of your games are online focused can be a major bummer (especially with summer vacation just around the corner).

Could this explain why my online pass for nhl11 quit working out of nowhere today?
  • BearKiller - May 26, 2011 12:48 a.m.

As long as this doesn't affect Netflix, I'm good.

The train from Uncharted 2 musta crashed into the server room. Okay, now while that's happening, I'm gonna play Chrono Trigger on Virtual Console. :P

Hah, now time to bring your XBox to the nearest paintball jungle and stupidly shoot it with AK or gold desert eagle......and leave you with Wii in the weekend (cus you just realize that you've already shot your PS3 few weeks ago)..

This is what they get for being Microsoft.
  • EwoksTasteLikeChicken - May 25, 2011 10:11 p.m.

Not too worried yet, but if anything else happens, I'll freak out. Like I said though, I'm not too worried since so many more people use LIVE than PSN.
  • ThatGuyFromTV - May 25, 2011 9:55 p.m.

Eh... 90% of the indie games are crap anyway. Call me again when the matchmaking dies off.
  • Modroneman - May 25, 2011 9:53 p.m.

Since I own both, I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Stupid poor people. PSN is still stupid and have inferior engineers working on the backend.
  • PretzelBoy - May 25, 2011 9:40 p.m.

Finally! Justice against all the Xbox fanboys who laughed at us PS3 fanboys! Who's laughing now! But to be a better man, I hope that this is a simple outage and service restored for you guys soon.
  • MattoMcFly - May 25, 2011 9:32 p.m.

@Phantom - why yes, it is. I pay it good money to stay informed.
  • RicePuddingUK - May 25, 2011 9:26 p.m.

I noticed this earlier, couldn't view any videos or demos, I just thought it was my 360 playing up again due to poor engineering.
