Yesterday at Summerslam Fan Axxess, the WWE community-involving event that hypes the upcoming pay-per-view event, publisher THQ unveiled the nearly complete line-up of wrestlers for the reboot to its long-running wrestling franchise. WWE announcer Todd Grisham was joined on stage by the awesome former champion The Miz and hall of famer/Andy Kaufman colleague Jerry Lawler, and the trio ran down the list of superstars in WWE '12. Though the group unsurprisingly includes most of the wrestlers currently appearing on TV, we were pleasantly surprised how deep into WWE’s past the developers went.

Above: Sadly this did not happen live yesterday

Obviously all the biggies were there: cover star Randy Orton, John Cena, CM Punk (aka Best in the World), Divas like Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix, as well as midcarders like Yoshi Tatsu, Sin Cara, and Michael McGillicutty. McGillicutty’s appearance lead to one of the more interesting moments of the day, as Randy Orton later made an appearance to hype the game and broke character somewhat to publically complain that McGillicutty, son of the late Mr. Perfect/Curt Hennig, should be allowed to wrestle under his true name Joe Hennig.

After the audience implored Orton to RKO Miz (which, sadly, didn’t happen) the group went on to show the strong collection of classic wrestlers making an appearance in WWE '12. Perhaps in response to the success of WWE All-Stars, WWE '12 has such recent legends Stone Cold Steve Austin and Eddie Guerrero joined by WCW throwbacks like Arn Anderson and the Road Warriors, plus odd but welcome additions Demolition and Vader. Now we can finally have the Road Warriors/Demolition dream match we’ve been waiting over 20 years to see.

Above: You can also vote on the game’s Facebook page whether you want The Rock (yay) or Cena (aka Fruity Pebbles) on the cover of the collector’s edition

The group on stage mentioned that one member of the roster had yet to be revealed (we’d put our money on Macho Man Randy Savage or Shawn Michaels) and co-host Jerry Lawler revealed that he’d be one of the first of the DLC wrestlers for the title. With the WWE '12 site showing 13 more DLC wrestlers to be revealed (and don’t forget The Rock as a pre-order bonus) the list isn’t finished just yet, but below you’ll find nearly everyone you’ll be playing as come November 22. We’ll have a more detailed look at the game very soon, but in the meantime you can plan out your perfect Royal Rumble with the list below:

I never liked the SmackDown games so I hope Yuke's is doing something new with this one and not just re-branding the same old shit.

Why have Kevin Nash but no Scott Hall? Ah well, good list anyway. Game sounds interesting too, sounds like it'll be a lot better than any of the Smackdown games after '06 at least.

Might get this game, but not because I watch wrestling (at least, not anymore) but because of the competition with friend to see who's the best. :P SvR, despite its flaws, will always have a place in my heart where we all sit around the (insert console here) and play till the hours of the night.

Will Sin Cara realistically botch at least one move per match?

@iceblue>> going to take a random guess and say that he's still an employee of Impact... not sure if that's true or not but it might be the reason.

Kevin Nash was signed to a Legends contract (along with Booker T) in January at the Royal Rumble.

I'm confused. Now I haven't kept up with wrastlin' for a hell of a long time but I did watch the CM Punk thing when it happened. Should I assume that whole mic outburst was staged? I recall the shit hitting the fan when this happened and it seems he is still with WWE.

I just wish the gameplay wasn't so slow and tedious. I really want to buy a wrestling game, but this series hasn't been fun since Here Comes the Pain. Maybe if they dropped some of the "realism", and opted for a more arcade style wrestling game. All Stars was a step in the right direction, but the wrestling doesn't need to be insane in order for it to be fast paced and fun.

  • xLiquidSwords - August 15, 2011 4:47 a.m.

Yes STEVE AUSTIN ! I honestly wouldn't buy a game if he wasn't in it , he was probably the only reason I saw wrestling next to the rock and undertaker :D
  • moan4stalone - August 15, 2011 5:30 a.m.

I would buy this if it had macho man. Wwe allstars macho man entance was weak so I would love to see what they could do with him.

Picture 44 shows Macho Man Randy Savage doing his elbow drop to Ricky The Dragon Steamboat.

  • disturbeddemonlord - August 15, 2011 9:46 a.m.

I wants a HD remake of no mercy =[
  • CitizenWolfie - August 15, 2011 11:39 a.m.

Glad to see Edge is still there but Macho Man would be a pretty good bit of fan service and a nice tribute. Looks like I'm back to making my own RVD and Kurt Angle again though *sigh* If only a decent TNA game would come out.
