Wonder Woman trailer shows Diana in action, a villain unmasked, and the lasso of truth!

The new Wonder Woman trailer is here. Following the Comic-Con teaser (see below), this lengthier preview burrows deeper into the backstory of Diana Prince. We also get a decent look at some of the more action-centric sequences, glimpses of the film's villainous plottings, and a longer scene showing off Diana and the lasso of truth. Alright, without further ado, here it is:

First things first, the action beats here are absolutely spot-on, a nice blend of CG and live-action (Gal Gadot is talented, but there's some things that require a spot of digital artistry). If Dawn of Justice got bogged down too heavily in a complex interwoven plot, then Wonder Woman *appears* to have learned from those missteps.

Things that were hinted at before are also expanded upon in a meaningful way here. For example, why would Diana leave that gorgeous idyllic homeland? Looks like someone close to her perishes, that's why. If anything's going to drive you out of paradise, it's loss.

Perhaps the biggest success here is the humour. Chris Pine's Steve Trevor gets his fair share of comedic moments (thanks to great editing), as does Diana in that "fish out of water"-type way. Naturally the biggest guffaw is left for the lil' end-of-trailer sting, courtesy of Lucy Davis as Steve Trevor's secretary.

Action, plot, comedy... is this the DC movie we've been waiting for?

Directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Lucy Davis, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and Saïd Taghmaoui, Wonder Woman will open in cinemas on June 23, 2017.
