Weekend Spent: Sept. 15-16

Lorenzo: This weekend I will be spending time in the great outdoors and soaking up some UV rays at Lake Tahoe. After all of that, I might finally get a chance to start playing Sleeping Dogs and dig into the story before the big review season hits. From what I've played of the game so far, I'm really enjoying the Hong Kong setting and characters, but I'm having a hard time remembering to drive on the left side of the road. There go my cop points.

Justin: This weekend, I'll be playing F1 2012. Yep, there's a Towell special review coming up! Aside from that, I'm well into Disc 2 of Resident Evil: Code Veronica from last weekend, plus I have started Batman: Arkham City, which is amazing. But Jet Set Radio HD might get in the way of that. Too many games! Aaagh!

David: I'd been looking forward to Borderlands 2 for a long time. Then last night I finally started playing Borderlands 2, properly, with a four-man, multi-class squad of ravenous, tactically-minded gun fetishists with the creation of ludicrous showboating awesome at the forefront of our thoughts. Then suddenly it was 1 a.m. And we didn't even care. I'm not doing any sleeping this weekend. I am collecting guns. It is inevitable.

Henry: I feel like this is the fourth time I've written this in Weekend Spent, but I'm on the road again, specifically in Tokyo for the next two weeks. Until TGS next week, I'll mostly be playing the live action game "Sweaty American Tourist With Too Much Disposable Income." Still, I did bring my 3DS, and aside from collecting new, Japanese StreetPass friends, I'll likely jump into New Super Mario Bros. 2 if I get some new Coin Rush challengers. Ja mata.

Sterling: As of the time I'm writing this, I'm at about Level 18 in Borderlands 2. I can't go into too many details until the review goes up (Gratuitous Promotion Warning: Monday, 9pm PST), but suffice it to say, I'm having a good time clinically removing numbers from a variety of freakish creatures on Pandora.

Tom: I have a real problem when it comes to saying one thing, but doing another. Take for, instance, last weekend, when I thought, for sure, Guild Wars 2 would be my go-to fascination. Such was not the case. On Friday, Lucas and I picked up Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 on Steam, since we were having issues connecting on the game IRL. We played. I left work, went home, and proceeded to spend, like, 10 more hours with it over the weekend. Unforeseen, to put it mildly. Anyway, Borderlands 2 is on the docket for this weekend. Take it with a grain of salt.

Sophia: Like Tom, I am sort of lying when it comes to what I’m doing on my weekends. I have been playing Zen Studio’s new Plants vs Zombies pinball table because it seems to be the only table where I can earn more than 10 million points. Is it sad that I am still addicted to DragonVale? It doesn’t take up any time, but it’s really the first thing I check in the morning on my phone and the last thing I do before I go to bed. Am I the only one who cares?!? (free gems this weekend btw.)

Hollander: I'm traveling this weekend, so while I'd love to be playing Guild Wars 2 or a few games I'm playing for review, I'm going with mostly mobile games. So if you see me laughing, I'm playing The Secret of Monkey Island for this month's Game Club; if I'm crying, it's Hexagon for iOS; and if I look confused, there's a good chance I'm playing the most recent Professor Layton.

I just got FTL - Faster than Light of Steam, and I'm totally addicted. It's good nerdy fun. It seems simple at first but it has a surprising amount of depth, and man the game is absolutely ruthless. But they pull it off in an enjoyable way, just like Demon's Souls.

Well, I'm STILL playing Dragon's Dogma, but I've now beaten the game and completed most of the important post-game stuff, so probably I'm just going to do a quick second playtrough to get it platinum'd And get into Sleeping Dogs straight after that! ^^

I love that from last weekend to this I fully expected you to have beaten DD :) Too funny. I'm still playing darksiders 2 haha...literally get two hours a week to game.
  • BladedFalcon - September 16, 2012 9:07 p.m.

    Yeah... too many games, and not nearly enough time. And yeah, I actually just finished DD this morning, and I did platinum it. To put things into perspective, first playtrough took me around 120 hours, but I did pretty much everything that could be done, and I did explore more than necessary even. Second playtrough in order to get a golden trophy? did it in 6 hours. So that gives you an idea of how flexible the game can be whether you want to spend a lot of time with it or just cut to the chase. Also started sleeping dogs too!... which is also looking massive >>; Man, I guess it's a good thing that most of the biggest games I was looking forward to have been pushed till next year... Between this, Darksiders II, Resident Evil 6 and (possibly) Disshonored, I have a feeling they alone will keep me busy for the rest of the year >>;

Wow. I've only Platinumed one game - mainly because so many games have multi-player trophies. I platinumed Assassin's Creed II...and will Platinum Walking Dead because it's unavoidable. The list for DD looks MASSIVE so congrats on that haha. I would love to platinum Dark Souls but the weapon crafting requirements look to take ages, plus the Darksiders 2 list requires amongst other things, a Friends List...which solitary gamer that I am, I don't have any listed haha. Ah well.

  • shawksta - September 16, 2012 9:23 a.m.

Balancing my time with NSMB2 and Kingdom Hearts DDD, Trying to find Asura's wrath, I've wanted to play that game but I can't seem to find it and barely get to go to a gamestore
  • BladedFalcon - September 16, 2012 9:13 p.m.

Isn't amazon a viable option for you? It isn't for me since I live in Mexico, but I would think you'd be able to order it from there and at a pretty decent price. And I definitely do recommend Asura's wrath, it's pretty much an awesome interactive action anime series... And the kind of game any DBZ or Bleach game tie-in should aspire to. Only downside I can think of, is that it's a game that commits the capital sin of cutting the ending off and selling it as DLC. That's a big no no in my books, and I wasn't aware off it when I got the game. That being said... You're not playing this game for the story, so the DLC isn't necessary, I suppose.
  • shawksta - September 17, 2012 5:50 p.m.

I know, and it is, but as far as games go, i save Amazon for a last resort, despite being the better option. Im gonna go through it soon. Playing the demo, the whole Live-action movie/gameplay mix was really eye catching, which is exactly why i want to get it. Although im wanting this for the cinema style gameplay, the story is intriguing but i highly doubt im getting the DLC, the whole "Missing Episode" as a title is bothersome. By the way, didnt Capcom show an image of DLC where you'll fight Ryu? Whatever happened to that!?
  • BladedFalcon - September 17, 2012 6:18 p.m.

well, it did came out! XD and so did a DLC fight with Akuma as well XD Really, the thing is that capcom did a TERRIBLE job at promoting the game.
  • shawksta - September 17, 2012 10:54 p.m.

Wait really!? My god, the last time i checked the DLC i didnt see it at all! Capcom needs to get their priorities straight instead of ignoring one series for another
  • BladedFalcon - September 18, 2012 7:32 a.m.

Yeeep... Specially because you would THINK they'd want to focus more on their NEW IPs who don't have any established support like their staple franchises do >_>
  • shawksta - September 18, 2012 5:19 p.m.

Yes, apparently Marvel vs Capcom says one thing, but Capcom's actions say an entirely different thing.
