Forget wizards and dwarves – dragons are once more (ahem) hot. In their never ending search for some of that rich Potter-style gold, studios are turning again to dragons. DreamWorks has How To Train Your Dragon on the way for next year and now Universal has grabbed up the rights to Dugald A Steer’s kid “non fiction” books Dragonology.
The titles – the first of which is The Dragonology Handbook – assumes that dragons are real and their care is detailed by Victorian dragonologist Ernest Drake.
Leonard Hartman will scribble (and executive produce) the first film, which will see the dragonologists scrambling to stop an evil loon taking control of the planet’s reptilian fire-puffers and destroying mankind. The Hollywood Reporter is getting warm .
