Twitch Xbox 360 app launches today

Why play video games on your Xbox 360 when you can watch other people play them?

Twitch is launching its very own Xbox Live app today. The first of its kind for the game-centric streaming service, viewers can browse its top 300 channels based on traffic and spectate their cares away.

Not only is the app free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, it's ad-free, a Twitch representative told us. That makes it a very compelling alternative to hunching over your monitor or hooking your computer up to your television.

Twitch is already embedded into some games like Black Ops 2, letting players easily stream footage from their consoles. Now, you can watch those streams from the very same place (as long they're a top-300 channel).

Its cool there is an app for Twitich now, but not being able to chat/ read the chat takes away a bit of the appeal for me. Other than that, if it allows viewings of previous recordings, that'll be good.

If these 360 apps were ever at least as convenient as turning on my pc, swapping inputs, and opening the web page, I might be excited.

Ok, I'll give it a try. But only because I sense you are a fellow planeswalker.

If I put my speculation hat on, this adds credence to the idea that for the next Xbox Microsoft will have streaming technology built in like the PS4. But they will use twitch as their streaming service rather than ustream. This seems to me like a limited pilot test (only 300 channels) to smooth out the launch on the next Xbox. I have never used ustream but use twitch all the time so if this turned out to be true it would definitely be a 1up over Sony for me.

Sweet, more things that I have to pay Micro$oft for in order to use my internet connection. Thankfully i never have a reason to use my xbox over my PC for streaming content and like..i don't have to pay them to use my internet :| Only top 300 channels as well...really? :| I saw Jared tweet that there was an announcement coming but was hoping for something else. Oh well, if it makes them money i guess that's all that's important..just hope they don't go power hungry considering they don't have any competition for streaming gaming content right now.
