Transformers DLC codes are going for more than $100 on eBay

Pre-order DLC for War for Cybertron are selling at insane prices

Words: on June 29, 2010

In case you missed it, Transformers: War for Cybertron came out last week and we really dug it. But if you did know, perhaps you’re a big enough fan to pre-order the PS3 or 360 version from Best Buy, Amazon, or Gamestop. If so, then you got an exclusive code to unlock one of three different characters, Jazz (Best Buy), Shockwave (Gamestop), or Demolisher (Amazon). You might have excitedly used that code the day you got it, but if you haven’t, you may want to consider selling it on eBay, as some kooky folks out there are paying more than $100 for that content.

Above: Here’s Shockwave, currently the easiest to find and thus the cheapest

Above: Jazz is in the middle, normally going for nearly the cost of the game

Above: And here’s Demolisher. Apparently few people got the title off Amazon, as he routinely goes for around $100

Yes, some of these codes for a digital Transformer are going for nearly double the game’s retail price. And why? Sure, we’ve seen this before, most recently with Red Dead Redemption Golden Guns, but those rarely sold over $30. Are Transformers fans that hardcore that they would pay such a premium to have those exclusive characters? Are they so used to paying insane money for the toys that they don’t bat an eye when dropping a C-note on a Demolisher code?

I don’t know, but what I do know is I wish I had bought the game off Amazon. The value of retailer exclusive DLC codes only seems to be going up, so long as you sell it soon enough after launch, though the aforementioned Golden Guns are still going for $20-30. We’re not Jim Cramer or anything, but that exclusive Enslaved DLC is looking more attractive by the moment.

From what I understand, the code for Jazz is included with the game at Best Buy. While Demolisher and Shockwave were pre-order exclusives. I'm guessing all three (and maybe more) will be included in a characters pack in a few months. It's amazing that DLC is selling like this though.

Ahaha hilarious- check out: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1104410p1.html -all of those characters will be contained within a dlc pack including new multiplayer maps and two extra characters- how stupid are they gonna feel LOL especially when they are released onto PSN and LIVE for probably £10- ridiculous... This just proves patience is a virtue... NEARLY EVERYTHING you can get exclusive by preorder becomes DLC eventually... and even if not a bloody virtual character which you prob only play once then find is crap is not worth £100, they are just games! do with what you've got! DLC was always known to be coming because let's be hoest... this is activision LOL

Wow thanks GR for making me feel like a total fucking fool. I had the code for Demolisher, and guess what I used it. He is OP for escalation as he's the only one with ammo beacon, but shit I would have gladly given him over for $100.

Is there any other way of getting these skins
because I LOVE Jazz. He's always been my favourite, and I HATE Michael Bay for having him ripped half in the first movie

In Australia, we only got the codes for shockwave and Jazz on the one voucher. Too bad I've used the code.

I'm always against Pre-Order content. If they are going to do Pre-Order content, it needs to be the same accross all retailers and be released to everyone later as a free download. I hate exclusive Pre-Order content, it should never be exlusive.

Some examples of how special content should never be handled:

Mass Effect 2 has quite a bit of content. The Inferno Armor was an Amazon pre-order item while Terminus was a GameStop pre-order. Luckily I had a friend at GameStop get me a code. Even though I had Inferno Armor, I had to buy it again in the Equalizer Pack for $2 if I wanted the Archon Visor or Capacitor Helmet. I did want them badly so ended up repurchasing Inferno Armor. (Doesn't bother me too much since I nerd big time for anything Mass Effect).

The only other franchise I collect is Splinter Cell. For Conviction, they unlocked disc content weekly on Thursday. The only pre-order bonus was SPAS-12 at GameStop. There was also a Collector's Edition item labeled as Exclusive Content which was an Armor. What did Ubi do to piss myself and many others off? They unlocked the Exclusive Collector's Edition Armor to everyone but will not unlock the Pre-Order Bonus SPAS-12. A complete flip on how this crap should actually be done. It doesn't help that Ubi already fucked up the USB Flashdrives included in the CE and put it up online for everyone to access.

I also hate how games like Transformers WfC and Red Dead Redemption do their pre-order bonuses. They had 3 different items accross 3 different retailers. Why is this bad? Well the idea is to pre-order so you can get extra content. But in order to get all content, you either pre-order 3 times or you spend rediculous amounts on Ebay. So, either way, even if you pre-order, you lose.

This is why Pre-Order bonuses are flawed and should never remain exclusive. And on the other note that Collector's Edition content should always remain exclusive.

Hrm, I have a code that came with my Limited Edition Red Dead that unlocks all 3 bonuses and the soundtrack. Maybe I could sell that for £200 even though I've already used it and it's now completely worthless.

Why would someone spend $100 on these? They'll just show up on XBL/PSN in a few weeks.

I hope they feel stupid for buying all 3 for this much
Dont get me wrong I love the transformers, and War for Cybertron but I don't want to spend this much for a single character skin

Lets hope they release all three characters for 800msp sometimes in the future :D

Dunno why they made Jazz "exclusive" though.. wasn't he pretty popular, back in the day? One of the only Autobots I remember well.
