director Tom McCarthy has signed on to write a supernatural family comedy called
Heat Vision report that the plot follows a man who can revisit and change moments from his life by re-watching his old home movies.
Thus far, McCarthy has excelled in helming stories about conflicted middle-aged men who aren’t necessarily happy with how their lives have turned out.
Which makes him the perfect writer for this project, even though it’s pandering to a different market than McCarthy’s used to.
With McCarthy wielding the pen, that intriguing premise should be afforded the same kind of depth and humanity that his other films have boasted. In short: don't expect The Butterfly Effect 4 .
