The Secret In Their Eyes review

This Argentian effort  bagged 2010’s Foreign Language Film Oscar instead of The White Ribbon and A Prophet. While not as radical as either, it’s still a superior procedural.

Our protagonist is retired criminal investigator Esposito (Ricardo Darin), who’s attempting to scribble a novel about a 25-year-old case: the unsolved rape and murder of a young bride, which coincided with his country’s slide toward a military dictatorship.

Shifting fluidly between present and past, writer/ director Juan José Campanella also deals delicately with the undeclared feelings between Esposito and colleague Irene (Soledad Villamil), while a preposterous final twist is offset by an instant-classic footy stadium chase scene.
