The Darkness movie confirmed

Comic-Con is fast approaching and the announcements continue to roll in. Following news that 2K Games’ The Darkness II will be delayed until February 2012 comes confirmation that a Darkness movie is in the works. Independent film studio Mandeville Films (The Fighter) has joined forces with Image Comics studio partner Top Cow to bring “The Darkness” graphic novel to the big screen.

If you haven’t read the books or played 2K Games’ videogame adaptation of The Darkness, the series follows mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, who finds himself cursed with “the darkness,” an evil power that grants Estacado control over demons. That means Estacado gets things done with gunplay and demonic monsters, making for good FPS gameplay and potentially gruesome action scenes in the upcoming film.

There’s no word yet on who will be directing or starring in the upcoming film. But according to the LA Times, news of Mandeville Films latest project indicates that the studio is expanding. Other upcoming films from the studio include The Muppets (2011 film) and a new Hong Kong Phoey flick scheduled for 2013.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the movie will be an adaptation of the video game? The video game was based off the source material (comics) and the movie will also be based off the comics. Like I said, there's been talks of a Darkness movie for nearly 10 years. The comics have been around for like 15 years so there's a lot more source material to use there than using the game as a basis. If the movie wants a more supernatural element and follows the origns arc in the comics then he won't be taking on mobsters but rather the Angelus which is fine by me :) Then they can do the crossover movie with the Witchblade when that movie finally gets made also.

Let's hope there's Mike Patton involved. I'd love to see the game recreated for the big screen. Never cared for comics, but I love all those visual ideas. P.S.: Wonder how non-german keyboards manage to do my reCaptcha "idedig Täuschung"... :))

There's been talk of a Darkness movie for like 10 years. And I hope the movie follows the comic more and not the games (so no WW1 stuff then). No point in rehashing the game in movie form. We know that never ends well.

Cant see this turning out good since they never do.

kinda like how parts of the darkness game scenes are replicated in Sucker Punch?

If they could pull of the World War 1 Hell from the game properly, it would be fantastic.

This is all well and good... but now when I hear ": The Movie has been confirmed" I instead hear "...has enthusiastically picked up to be made into a movie until the studio is disbanded or loses interest in producing it further due to a rubbish reason." I'm still waiting for Halo and DMC to hit the silver screen.

    Really?

This could be pretty good if the casting is right. Jack's girlfriend was one of the most believable videogame characters ever created.

Well, this sounds sufficiently gruesome. I STILL need to play the game though...
