TGS 2011: Uncharted: Golden Abyss video takes $250 out of your pocket

Alright! The show's over, everyone! It's time to stop being pretending you're not going to buy a PlayStation Vita. Sony has released an 11 minute video showing off the newest Uncharted game, and it looks absolutely, positively impeccable. Don’t believe us? See for yourself...

We’re not all that shocked at the beautiful graphics or the fantastic animations and voice acting – that’s sort of par for the course for the Uncharted series. No, the thing that surprises us most is that it manages to take things we didn’t like about the console Uncharted games and make them work. Needing to use the Sixaxis to balance Nathan as he crossed over beams in Drake’s Fortune felt forced, and didn't really work all that well. Now that the indicator is on the screen it looks like it will have a more intuitive feel, moving it from an awkward gimmick to an immersive treat that falls right in line with Uncharted's mission statement of delivering a cinematic experience.

There’s still no release date, but we’re really hoping it comes out soon. Like, really soon. Actually, we’d be fine if it was out now. Is it out now? Can someone check that for us? Hold on, we’re going to call the developers, we’re tired of all this waiting…

god i really want this game..... i love the uncharted series more than i love cream cheese and nutella sandwiches with a good beer... and i really love those... but i really don't wanna buy a Vita... not that i have anything against the Vita... i just dont want to spend the same on a handheld that i spent on my console, maybe i;; wait 5 years for there to be an Uncharted collection when the PS4 comes out a-la GoW, PoP and Shadows/Ico. meanwhile only 42 days till Drake's Deception! Whoot! Whoot!

actually they should just re-make the Uncharted Trilogy for Vita instead of forcing someone who wants to play the entire Uncharted Series to buy 2 different systems.... *sob*

Why did they go from super hot girls like chloe and elena to someone who looks like a host from a kids tv channel?

*looks in pocket* Damn, they're right.

Yeah it looks fantastic but have Uncharted on my PS3, I'd like to see some original IP's

It looks so amazing. I don't think I've ever been this excited for a game on a handheld.

I've had my same psp phat and i loved that, and i'm so glad to see a new play station portable system that will be comparable to today's systems and doesn't cost over a half grand. The only thing that i don't like is all the motion control because that's never been an accurate means of balancing or aiming for me.

This looks bloody amazing, but it's looking more and more like the Vita is a portable console and not a handheld anymore. I still plan on buying a Vita to compliment my 3DS, but I feel like I'm only going to use it when I have a decent amount of free time and no access to my PS3. An escape from an exploding building and console quality cutscenes don't exactly scream "you'll easily be able to play me for 2 minutes and put me down."

I don't see what's wrong with a portable console. Seriously, this would be something that I would love to play during a family vacation, a road trip, or on an airplane. I just hope that there is a 3rd party charger that you can plug into your car.

Do we really have to use the goddamn touchscreen? For stealth takedowns, of all things? And did anyone else think that demo was a little choppy? But what the hell. It's probably got a ways to go yet, and I'm sure they'll smooth it out. This is one of the first things I'll be getting for Vita, minor annoyances or not.

Global Abyss eh? Or possibly Golden Abyss
  • Fox_Mulder - September 17, 2011 3:20 a.m.

Man, this looks incredible. It's like the Uncharted we all know and love, with touch screen capabilities, (looks like) some better implemented motion control, and amazing graphics (even though I detected some lower resolution textures, that is expected, even in the PS3 games, so no harm no foul). I'm as excited as Mr. Cooper!

this looks fantastic...but it doesnt feel like a handheld game.i would rather play uncharted on ps3,than waste my time on a handheld.i dont know but most 3ds games fit the handheld.that why i'll buy a 3ds ova a vita.but i still have to say-this looks awesome
  • Slider64 - September 17, 2011 7:52 a.m.

Agreed, 3DS and a smart phone is all you will need, different experiences and Nintendo first party for the 3ds, smart phone for cheap gaming. done and done
  • Slider64 - September 16, 2011 10:43 p.m.

I am not interested in the Vita at all, that was an alright trailer, but I can play my uncharted games on my 55" tv, why bother with the Vita?
  • planetheads - October 6, 2011 9:02 p.m.

exactly...most vita will try to act like there console brothers n mite not reach that impression, but 3ds will go what it has and surprise.that what NDS got ova psp.there where alot of games on NDS that impressed me,b'cos i wasnt expectin to much, but some NDS manage to surprise me alot.

Im still a bit depressed about the battery life though, since knowint the life on the 3ds I thought sony would attemp to surpass em on that aspect, but both of em having 3-5 hours is a bit dissapointing. Right now im more inclined for the bita but im not entirely sure, maybe if they release a new model somewhere along the road with a couple of more hours would seal the deal
