Konami's released new images for both upcoming Silent Hill titles: the new Downpour (previously Silent Hill 8) and remastered HD Collection. If you're a Silent Hill fan, you know what you're in for with these pics. It’s all about foggy Northwestern Gothic, confused heroes, and the occasional jump into a hellish alter-realm. But then, if you're a Silent Hill fan, that's exactly what you came for...

It's the HD Collection that gets a better show in these new pics – the series' signature grittiness made a virtue of the previous generation's technical limitations, after all. That means the task in remastering the games has been to bump-up the graphical sizzle without compromising the scratchy imperfection that kept the originals so chillingly uncanny. The game also includes the “Born from a Wish” side-story from the Special Edition of Silent Hill 2.

These images for the new Downpour are slight variants on what you've seen before, but the glimpse of Silent Hill's realities in the midst of transition is a tease for the game's new content. Downpour releases October 25, with the HD Collection dated for early 2012.

I think i'l stick with my PS2 versions. But i'm really hoping so good things from Downpour, I didn't think Homecoming was particularly bad, but i want the series to return to form

I'm seeing a pattern from Konami here, but it's all good. I never finished SH2 because my PC crashed back then, so this is a good chance as any. It's a good thinking though, early 2012 has many competitions, Konami will be at disadvantage against let's say ME3, so they opted for nostalgia and quantity.

Just a heads up for anyone who's never played the third Silent Hill- get ready for some f**king amazing visual environments when you get to Alternate Silent Hill (not a spoiler since you get there in about 2 hours lol).
