TalkRadar 100 - Centenniversary!

Your Hosts

The Topics

This is where we’d usually list the various talking points that come up throughout the podcast. But this time it’s a bit different. Hundredth podcasts don’t happen too often, so this week’s show is a glorious anniversabration of all thing TalkRadar, from our weekly Top 7 lists to our idiotic sound effects to phone calls sent in by you, the surely gorgeous listener.

Enjoy… for hours!

In the office

Above: We busted out one (count ‘em) ONE fancy mic for the special occasion. We hear TalkRadar 200 may have free bottled water

Above: The black Wii arrives on Sunday in the US, we got ours a few days early and marveled at its sleek sheen

Above: Henry traveled to Nintendo’s offices to compete in a Photo Dojo tournament on May 5. Nintendo dubbed it “Cinco de Mario”

In the community

Above: Our TalkRadar 100 celebration begins with this montage from Vagrant

Above: Graboids turned us all into creepy puppets for the occasion

Above: After 100 episodes, Senator Pepper confirms that Chris does NOT smell like pizza, and was instrumental in the Battle of Thermopylae

Above: Now you never have to wonder what we’d all look like in Sailor Moon costumes – mgkyo666 did it for you

Above: Hatebreeder comes through yet again with this action-packed, true-to-life account of last year’s E3

Above: Ampatent crafted this beauty way back in January. Only catch is we recorded on May 4 and it posted on May 7. So close!

I'm sorry this comment is over a week late. I have a confession to make: I haven't owned a console since the SNES. I am not the typical target demographic of a gaming website. But that's exactly why TalkRadar deserves better than it gets: here I am. I post in the forums and I read the articles. I'm planning to buy a console and reenter the world of gaming. IGN and Gamespot would never have had that effect on me. TalkRadar did. If I hadn't been a gamer in the days of SNES and Genesis, I probably wouldn't have started listening to TalkRadar. But that's not why I keep listening. I listen because I'll listen to anyone speak with passion, whatever the subject. I listen because at some point in every episode, even when the hosts are at their most exhausted/dispirited, one of them will surprise themselves with some comment whose sheer unexpectedness or absurdity causes us all to lose it for a little bit. But mostly I listen because the interactions between the hosts belies the genuine affection and friendship they feel toward each other. That's not easy to capture on tape/disk. I think the listeners get it. Many of T-Dar's most beloved moments have had little to do with gaming. I think there are a people up the chain of command at GamesRadar, and probably at Future, who get it. But I'm guessing it's also the reason you can't find a link to TalkRadar on the main page. Thanks Chris and Brett and Mikel, Tyler, Charlie and Hank, for persevering anyway.

Massive nostalgia trip. It's like remembering every good memory from the past 2 years as if they were the only memories you ever had. Love it. Pretty existential for a 14 year old.
  • T3xH - May 10, 2010 4:13 p.m.
