Still playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live? We have a gift for 12 of you

Remember two weeks ago, when Microsoft shut down the original Xbox Live forever? When Halo 2 fans were forced to finish their final online matches? When we held a multiplayer marathon to celebrate the end of an era?

Not so fast! Surprisingly – and brilliantly – that end never came for some. While the rest of us mourned and moved on, the hardest of hardcore fans refused to quit. Realizing that they could keep playing online as long as they didn't turn off their Xboxs, they've kept their systems powered up for an astounding 13 days straight, enjoying an additional 13 days of Halo 2 in the process. These loyal gamers are now known as "The Final Few" on Bungie's forums, and although console freezes are quickly dwindling their numbers, a dozen still remained at the time of this article's posting.

And you know what? That kind of loyalty and passion deserve reward. So…

If you are one of "The Final Few" – one of the 12 people still playing Halo 2 over Xbox Live – the editors at GamesRadar would like to give you early access to Halo: Reach multiplayer. Contact us at halo@gamesradar.com, prove you own one of the following tags, and you'll receive a code for the "Friends & Family" beta starting tomorrow, April 29.

Agent Windex
APACHE N4SIR
sherlok 1
Rob2D
z0mbie stench
Lord Odysseus11
xxMAKDADYxx
H2o Shoagie
xxBooker Dxx
DirtyCajun

HiredN00bs

Why these tags? They were listed by Joe Campbell, the guy who started "The Final Few" thread on Bungie to begin with. What proof? Email us and we'll work that out together. How will you keep playing Halo 2 and Halo: Reach at the same time? Maybe you won't, but we think you deserve the choice, should your Xbox unexpectedly freeze at some point this week or this weekend. What was that email again? halo@gamesradar.com.

Keep soldiering on, Final Few, and we hope to hear from you soon!

Wow, devotion at it's finest. Or obsession. Either way, this is slightly inspiring. Oh, and first, just because I can.

wow thats freaking amazing! id do something like that for Kz2!
  • infestedandy - April 28, 2010 8:49 p.m.

That's nice that you're recognizing devotion GR, but I'd think that if these people are that dedicated they probably already have the rest of the Halo games. Meaning, they have ODST and their gateway into the beta. WAIT! This could be a conspiracy set up by Microsoft to get rid of the Final Few! The early access could get them off the network! I knew GamesRadar was in league with the beast! Don't do it guys!
  • GamesRadarCharlieBarratt - April 28, 2010 9:04 p.m.

@infestedandy Owning ODST will get them into the Reach beta on Monday, May 3. These early access codes will get them into the Reach beta tomorrow, April 29. See the difference?

Wow, infestdandy, I totally was thinking the same thing, that its just a clever ploy to eliminate the Final Few from the servers. Are they the only ones left on the original XBL? Or are there other people also hiding out in different games?
  • MisterAdequate - April 28, 2010 9:09 p.m.

Hahaha that's awesome of you guys. +1
  • Abe504 - April 28, 2010 9:26 p.m.

they have to be running it on an original xbox, no way an xbox 360 runs for 13 days strait without breaking. and im not even trying to be humorous.
  • Cyberninja - April 28, 2010 9:43 p.m.

do you think mircosoft could just turn off live and turn it back on if they want to be pure evil
  • FearlessRaven - April 28, 2010 10:47 p.m.

Nope for most of these guys they are running it on xbox 360s which is why the numbers are so low. This time last week they were at 26 but a ton of them red ringed. Still good on you Gamesradar for supporting these guys! now if only the reach beta would have happened about a month prior so as not to screw up their game.

I was #13 and I was disconnected on Tuesday, is there anyway I can get an early access invite?
  • chunko97 - April 28, 2010 11:47 p.m.

  • S135 - April 28, 2010 11:47 p.m.

@FearlessRaven if only the beta happened a month earlier so i could play it on MY 360 (with a broken disk drive) and not the one i'm borrowing from my friend, Which just E74'd.
  • S135 - April 28, 2010 11:49 p.m.

(loldoublepost) Sorry, i meant my 360 worked a month ago and just got the borked DVD drive.
  • Doctalen - April 29, 2010 12:46 a.m.

Wow dedication. Even though I own all Halo games (excluding Halo Wars) I have never once played Halo2 on my 360. Just never occurred to me when I have Halo 3 and other games.
