The Avengers Project is a new Marvel game from the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex devs

Update: A press release received by Gamasutra adds a little detail. Hope you're ready to wait until next year to hear much more solid info.

"The Avengers Project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise".

"Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers Project and other games will be announced in 2018."

Original story: Marvel and Square Enix are teaming up for a series of games and they're starting with a big one: The Avengers Project, which is currently being developed by both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. Those are the studios responsible for Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided respectively, which is a pretty nice pedigree.

The teaser trailer shows cast off gear from The Avengers lying amidst wreckage and rubble: Bruce Banner's glasses (I think), Thor's hammer, Iron Man's gauntlet, and Captain America's shield. It looks like things didn't go very well for them - perhaps the main character in The Avengers Project will be one of a new generation of heroes that rises up to rescue or replace them?

We'll have to wait for Marvel or Square Enix to reveal more details, but until then the possibilities are pretty darn exciting.
