SSX delayed until February 28, 2012

Todd Batty, Creative Director on Electronic Arts' upcoming SSX reboot, has announced that the game's release date will be pushed back a few weeks. Sure, fans have been waiting for the game since it was a gritty "gogogo" thriller – what's a few more weeks to give the game, as Batty says, “the final bit of polish we think it deserves”?

Batty says that studios always release a game wishing there'd been just a little more time to get things right – and that the distinguishing factor in classics like SSX Tricky has been the team's willingness to take that time. He says that waiting until the revised street date of Feb 28 will allow the team to tie of “all the little things that may not be noticeable during the first hour or two playing the game, but are appreciated over the course of days, weeks, months and beyond.”

To make sure you don't throw up your hands and defect to whatever other star-studded snowboarding franchise you can think of, EA's released some new gameplay footage from the title. The new clip offers a good look at the game's epic scope, fluid trick moves, and chopped-up musical soundtrack. Think it'll be worth the 2-3 weeks' extra wait?

Amazon told me this like 2 months ago, but I did preorder when I first heard about it. I have a lot to play before February so this isn't so bad.

I'd gladly endure a short delay like this to get a finished product. It seems that too often, publishers allow games to get released unfinished because they can just put out a Day 1 patch. It seems EA actually cares about game quality. Also, I love that they brought back The Worm for Eddie.

At least it isn't delayed until winter 2012 or something. I'd rather them get the game perfect than rush a release. Plus, now I wont get in trouble for ignoring my girlfriend on Valentine's Day.

Hope there's more than 4 racers in a race, or coming in 3rd doesn't seem so bad. It feels like this team is just getting notes about what SSX was like and never actually played it (Yes, there's video of them playing SSX 3). I'm not asking for Tokyo Megaplex (although, I should be), but how about some fireworks at a check point? The small stuff.

Does this mean March for Europe? Given the choice, I'd take the more polished game, but damn it seems so far away again!
