Sony's promotion with Edge Shave Gel has a problem (or, how to get free DLC)

If you've been in a drug store lately, you might have noticed bottles of Edge Shave Gel wrapped in special PlayStation packaging. If you buy one of those bottles, you'll get a code that can be redeemed online to get exclusive DLC for Infamous 2, Killzone 3, or Gran Turismo 5. But it turns out there's a much easier way to get the DLC.

It seems the codes are either not unique, or Sony just didn't implement a way to determine whether or not a code has been redeemed. So just going to the store and writing down the code will let you get the DLC - even if someone else already used that code.

So even if you don't shave, don't like Edge, or for any other reason had no desire to participate in the promotion, you can still get the DLC, completely free of charge.

Simply go to and enter one of the codes readily available online, fill out some personal info, and you're good to go. We tested it out ourselves and it does work. You can do this as many times as you want to nab the following content, as described by Sony:

* A Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack featuring two popular maps from Killzone 2
* Three Killzone 3 Unlock Points to use on the weapon or ability of your choice
* A customized Chevy Camaro SS “Edge Special” for Gran Turismo 5
* A special “Sniper Blast” in-game power for inFAMOUS 2. The long-range blast has a narrow area of effect to better equip you to take-on the enemy when inFAMOUS 2 arrives in June.

So let your facial hair grow. With free DLC like this, who needs to shave?

haha FAIL seems people want to make sony go broke
  • Openwound - March 19, 2011 12:13 a.m.

Hm. DO they lose money, though? Seems like a simple enough aspect to change if it was that much of a potential loss...
  • chrisat928 - March 19, 2011 12:13 a.m.

^^ Doesn't know how third party DLC giveaways work...
  • Zepaw - March 19, 2011 12:18 a.m.

"So just going to the store and writing down the code will let you get the DLC" You can see the codes without opening the package? I would damn well hope they are reuseable then because anyone could have already used the code on your package. Aren't Dr Pepper's EA DLC codes reuseable as well?
  • archnite - March 19, 2011 12:38 a.m.

If their reusable some industrious individuals should go out and just post them in this article so I don't have to leave my house.
  • bluelabatt - March 19, 2011 12:41 a.m.

@chrisat928 Well they're all Sony studios, so they don't have to pay for DLC for this promotion. If anything, it might annoy PR at Gilette, because it doesn't add purchase incentive as a cross-promotion.
  • bluelabatt - March 19, 2011 1 a.m.

Except Sucker Punch, but Infamous is a Sony-published game.
  • ja3e - March 19, 2011 3:41 a.m.

Just grabbed a code for InFamous 2 BUT i have an excuse for getting it for free... I'm a brit so can't get it any other way.. I had to find a zip code though so just used one for a Gamestop in Calafornia lol... Probably won't even work over here when InFamous 2 comes out...
  • QWERTYCommander - March 19, 2011 4:19 a.m.

I don't even own any of those games, but I might get KZ3 so I did this anyway.
  • JBizFoShiz - March 19, 2011 4:32 a.m.

works! i now have a code for the sniper-whatever in infamous 2. which is awesome, because the sniper power in the first game was helpful. thank you for this article! thank you, guy in link, for finding this out! now i can continue mustache march as planned.
  • soranamineforever - March 19, 2011 5:19 a.m.

You're really going out of your way to get sued, aren't, Gamesradar? I wouldn't stick a link to those free DLC codes on an official gaming site.
  • LTS - March 19, 2011 7:40 a.m.

Now I feel stupid for paying $5 for the retro pack.
  • shorty_bobert - March 19, 2011 8:23 a.m.

This would be helpful if I didn't throw out all of my Sony stuff already. Oh well, they deserve the s*** they're gonna get for this.
  • Rash86 - March 19, 2011 9:08 a.m.

    Thank You Sir! :)
  • HitmanSB07 - March 19, 2011 10:21 a.m.

Are they U.S only? I haven't tried them over here(Europe) yet.
  • builder21 - March 19, 2011 6:35 p.m.

If you change the email you enter, you can continue to get free dlc. Even if its not even a real email, all the personal info can be fake. This is great, I've stockpiled 50+ codes for each piece of dlc.
  • Triscuitable - March 19, 2011 7:32 p.m.

Thank you, GR, these new Killzone maps are a ton-of-fun!
  • Mechamorbo - March 20, 2011 3:21 p.m.

The Dr. Pepper EA promo worked the same way too
  • Hydr0ponicK - March 20, 2011 7:13 p.m.

Wow GR, I wonder how many of your staff members used that GeoHotz seem to love screwing over business with "freebies".
  • Turboash - March 21, 2011 3:33 p.m.

Yep, got my Edge Camaro on Friday... and yet, there seems to be a lack of any Edge products in my medicine cabinet... strange.
