Sonic the Hedgehog 2 coming to PS Plus next week

Sony has just issued the latest details about what's in store for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and among the discounts and specials, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be available as a free download. Regular PS3 users will have to wait longer for their chance to get it, and, of course, won't get it for free.

It's part of Sega's continuing Genesis Collection rollout on the PS3, bringing classic first-party titles from the publisher's old-school console. PlayStation Plus users first got their hands on Sonic the Hedgehog earlier this year.

All of the Genesis Collection titles are and will be free for Plus subscribers - Sonic 2 goes live for the premium PSN service on April 5.

Other features coming to PS Plus in April include the release of PSN mini game Duael Invaders, a free Yakuza 4 dynamic theme, and early access to the Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds avatar DLC bundle. That will be available April 12.

And if you're looking for a good deal, Stardone and Hamsterball with both go on sale April 5, while new PSN game Dungeon Hunter will be available April 12 for $9.74, a 25% discount from the regular price.

Anyone else realise that by buying the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, that most of these games are already on there (Atari and Genesis mostly) That being said, I'm all for even more people being exposed to Sonic's glory days, as opposed to Sonic The Hedgehog (PS3) and *gulp* The "Were-Hog" incident... YAY Sony.

I'm pretty sure I downloaded this on XBLA like 2 years ago, maybe longer. Lol. Kinda late aren't they?

I'd like to see the Sonic CD version released, considering you could have picked this up already in a number of genesis collection packs with a bunch of other games for like $10, but not the Sonic CD version. I've never played it and with the idiots running sega I prolly never will, Sonic 2 is great but I've already got the original cart, ps3, and psp versions.

I don't know... if it's 5 bucks, I'll consider it, but otherwise no thanks.

NotBraze, I'm with you, on the condition they toss Sonic CD in there, too. That one was awesome.

Obviously at this point there's dozens of ways to get your hands on the classic Genesis Sonic games, and I own them on several platforms, but as a fan what I'd really want to see is a deluxe 20th or 25th anniversary edition with just the four main games (Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles) and gobs of bonus material. I'm talking documentary features, Soundtrack CDs, original development art, etc. The film industry does this all the time with re-releases of classic movies, I can't see why the game industry couldn't follow suit. If they had a package like I described, I'd drop $100+ on that thing in a heartbeat.
