Rumour: Sullivan Stapleton up for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII?

Star Wars: Episode VII could have landed its first star, with rumours abounding that Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton has read for a role.

The news comes via the usually-reliable Latino Review ; the website received confirmation from “reps and other solid sources” that a meeting recently took place between Stapleton and Star Wars producers.

Though there’s no word on what sort of role Stapleton read for, our bet’s on a rugged anti-hero in the Han Solo mould. Frankly, he'd be perfect.

Stapleton’s biggest claim to fame is TV series Strike Back (hello Star Wars connections), and he’ll next be seen leading 300: Rise Of An Empire as Greek champion Themistocles.

As to reports that director JJ Abrams will be shooting some of Episode VII with IMAX cameras, Latino Review 's sources have said otherwise, stating:

“Can’t really say anything more, but don’t believe reports that they’re not filming in New Mexico, and this IMAX thing is out of context.”

Star Wars: Episode VII
is currently being written by Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt and will open in cinemas in 2015.
