Revealed: How Star Wars got into Soulcalibur

Jan 15, 2008

How exactly did Darth Vader and Yoda end up in Soulcalibur IV?

Did George Lucas reveal himself a massive fan of the beat-'em-up and came begging at Namco's door for their inclusion?

Not exactly.

Speaking to Gametrailers.com, game director Katsutoshi Sasaki provided this rather non-glamorous explanation of how the Force daddies made it into the sequel:

"The thing that I want to make clear is that we make the game for consumers... It's not for us, it's not for the company. When we think about what makes the consumers happy, what do they want to play, what makes them excited about the game, that was guest characters.

When we thought about what guest characters would fit in the Soulcalibur universe, we naturally ended up with Vader and Yoda."

The gaming world did a double-take last week when it was confirmed that Darth Vader and Yoda were appearing in Soulcalibur IV.
