Resident Evil 6 Anthology, Archives editions confirmed by Capcom

Ordinarily, when we hear about video game special edition packages it involves a ton of useless plastic stuff and momentarily interesting art books.

Which is why we're so please to hear Capcom has officially announced the Anthologies and Archives editions of Resident Evil 6, for within lies a veritable treasure trove of Resident Evil games.

The Archives Edition will include Resident Evil 6, RE5 Gold Edition, RE4 HD, RE: Code Veronica X HD, and RE: Degeneration (film.)

The Anthologies Edition boasts the mother load. Within that package lies RE6, RE5 Gold, RE4 HD, RE3: Nemesis, RE2, and Resident Evil: Director's Cut. Unfortunately, it seems Capcom has disowned Resident Evil Zero entirely. (Or more likely, they just couldn't pry the rights away from Nintendo platforms.)

The real kicker is that both of these huge packages are going for just $89.99. For virtually every traditional entry in the RE series that's an absolute steal. We're not sure about you, but that sounds like a Day 1 purchase. Especially if they can rustle up some of the more embarrassing installments as pre-order bonuses.

    No REmake either. Meh.

Not to burst everyone's bubble of an "Awesome boxed collection," but what Andrew fails to mention is that each one is JUST Resident Evil 6 and then a bunch of slips of paper to download the digital copy of the included games. Still a great deal if you don't have any of them, but not nearly as exciting as it could be. Not quite to the level of something like Capcom's 15th Anniversary edition, they released in Japan that had a physical copy of every game sans Zero.

Well, the only one I've ever played all the way through was 4, And I'd be more than happy to get that (along with 5 and it's DLC). Question is, do I buy the one with Resi's 1-3, or the one with Code Veronica? I mean, which is better guys?

Get the anthology edition. It's still worth it to play the first 3 games, just to see the evolution of the series.

"embarassing installments"? Iactually prefered the originals where you would crap your pants every door with just enough ammo for 2 zombies. the only embarassing thing was voice acting

I think when he mentioned embarrassing installments he was referring to games such a "Resident Evil: Gaiden", "Survivor", and "Outbreak" which I personally enjoyed. Outbreak I mean, not Gaiden. Lol.

Waaaait a second... the linked article to Destructoid states that the Archives edition is Xbox only.... and the Anthology edition is PS3 only... is this correct?
  • bamit11 - June 9, 2012 4:10 p.m.

It's true, and in my opinion, they fucked over anyone who has an Xbox, becuase who would want a movie they can just pirate or rent and 1 game over 3 games. Especially becuase on Xbox you can already download Code: Veronica. Capcom are assholes.

Let me get this straight... Archives has 6, 5, 4, and CV.... Anthologies has 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... and NO CV?! Why the hell is Code Veronica not in the Anthologies edition? That means I'd have to buy both versions to get all the games? Am I missing something?
  • IceBlueKirby - June 8, 2012 9:49 p.m.

Damn, I want Code: Veronica X because it's my favorite traditional RE game (or at least the one I've played the most), but I also want 1-3, so I don't know which one to get.
  • J-spit - June 8, 2012 6:52 p.m.

Son of a bitch! I just bought Resident Evil 3! I have them all, but having them all on one platform would be a godsend!
  • Travia220 - June 8, 2012 6:43 p.m.

So.. No special edition for the PC Platform? Typical of Capcom to piss all over PC.
  • larkan - June 9, 2012 1:15 a.m.

You really can't be surprised by this, we didn't even get the DLC for RE5. The good news is, we'll get it later, but we'll get awesome Steam deals which means we can wait until Christmas to pick it up for $10.

    playing...resident...evil...2...again. Thank you capcom
  • SiPod - June 8, 2012 3:43 p.m.

See, now THAT'S how you do a Special Edition.
  • ThundaGawd - June 8, 2012 3:03 p.m.

Holy Crap, I've played every RE game before, but the only one I actually own is RE5 (Shameful, I know, but I still love it to death). I'll be getting this on Day one for sure, nothing like a boxed collection of one of the best franchises out there to make you the envy of you're friends :D
  • Cyberninja - June 8, 2012 2:37 p.m.

I wasn't going to purchase day one before but now I will, so I can play through the whole series before 6
