Real Left 4 Dead players do it at night

The night time is the right time in Dark Center, a new mod for Left 4 Dead 2 that removes the sun

Words: on April 19, 2010

When Left 4 Dead 2 was first announced many fans cried foul. Some felt that it was too soon for a sequel, that Valve should’ve been focusing more on new content for the original Left 4 Dead, and that the upcoming game would divide the first title’s online community once it launched. But that wasn't all. Many fans also weren’t satisfied with the introduction of campaign levels set during the daytime. For these sun-hating fans, the night time was the right time (and the only time) appropriate for shooting your way towards the safe house in a Left 4 Dead campaign.

Luckily, Dark Center, a new mod for Left 4 Dead 2 has removed all signs of the sun from the Dead Center campaign for all Left 4 Dead purists. “Since the first screenshots of L4D2 were released, I was unsatisfied with the daylight campaigns. While it’s logical when telling the storyline, it spoils pretty much of the atmosphere that the first game had,” explains BarracudaATA, the author of the mod. So, if you were one of the many fans who still feel that daytime campaigns harm the aesthetics of the zombie apocalypse’s atmosphere in Left 4 Dead, the Dark Center mod should be right up your alley.

This is a pretty cool mod, but I have to think that this will make it even harder on the Survivors--especially in Versus. Considering that a complete finish is rare with the guys I play with, I doubt we'll use it.

I hate L4D2 because the uni network block the nessesary ports to play games online (not sure it's intentional) but while you can just about get through a campaign with the AI in the first game, in the second, LOL no -_-

Fail bots the lot of them...

But yea, I hate the sun aswell to bring it back on topic, and I can't wait to try that mod out... with the AI :'(

People who need zombies in the dark to be scared clearly haven't seen dawn of the dead or 28 days later, both have zombies in the day and scared the bejeebus out of me. L4D2 was awesome and i must admit any excuse to revisit those missions is good enough for me.

Oh that is cool but I thought, just from the title, that the article was about gamers playing L4D2 at night. I used to play Doom 3 at night. I usually only play L4D, Bioshock 1&2 and other atmospheric games at night.

Valve should have been focusing more on Half life 2: episode 3 then even bothering with a sequel to left 4 dead at all.

I don't care what time of day it is in the game, but if L4D1 hadn't been set at night my first time playing it wouldn't have been as awesome or memoable

Honestly I don't care what time of day that game is set, but if L4D1 hadn't been set at night then my first time playing it wouldn't have been nearly as awesome or memorable.
