RadioRadar podcast 95: Going Platinum

The GR crew eases into the new groove of podcast by talking about odd crossovers, meetings with Japanese developers, knights that shovel, and a special question of the week. Also, sorry for some small, occasional sound problems in the episode, but we had some strange technical difficulties during the recording.

Hosts: Henry Gilbert, Ashley Reed, Lorenzo Veloria, Lucas Sullivan, Tony Wilson

Question of the week: Write a Valiant Hearts style farewell to departing GR editor Hollander Cooper, and you might win one of 10 free codes for the game. Make sure you include your console of choice too--PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, or PS4!

Dear Hollander, I haven't played Valiant Hearts yet so I don't know how this theme goes. I do confess I find it ironic that I'm being asked to (dodges mortar) write a letter in the style of a game I haven't played in order to win that game. I mean what is this all about. Play the game in order to understand the game in order to win this contest to win the game. Is this a joke? Does Henry know what he's doing here? Is this podcast in good hands? I don't know. I'm just a dog. (I think there's a letter-writing dog in the game, I don't know. E3 trailers lie sometimes.) Anyway, good luck at Origin. I hear it's like steam except their biggest game still doesn't work 10 months later. So seriously, good luck with that. Yours, BKO P.S. (gets hit by mortar)

(Also, PS4, though I pressed "submit" just as I heard Henry say "no more than 100 words" so I realize this is in vain. Thanks anyway!)

Great podcast, its alright Henry, your getting there as a host. Love One Piece like you Tony, its one of those that isnt too popular but isnt underrated either and its wacky shenanigans is glorious. "No more motion controlled shooters" OBJECTION LORENZO! You my friend clearly seem to play the wrong games regarding motion being used in shooters, if anything i point you to alteast try Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy, it uses motion in a shooter type atmosphere gloriously and its a shame its being used nowhere else. Good luck to Cooper, he was a brave soldier that made GR what it is today in podcast form, i already own the game so i dont need to answer this QOTW but he has our heartfelt goodbye from the GR community.

Dear Cooper I can't believe you left us Coop, I liked to listen to you while having a poop. You made me smile when i was in sexual denial, you made me laugh while riding my giraffe. I hope you enjoy your time at EA, i'm sure you will cherish every day. Maybe one day we'll meet again, perhaps we'll go on holiday to Bahrain. I have to go now it's getting kinda late, stay in touch my one true soul mate. Farewell my Cooper it's time to go, good luck you hardcore maniac storm trooper. (PC)

Oops I forgot what system I wanted, preferably steam otherwise PS4 or 3. Also One Piece is awesome and I haven't heard of any good games from the series yet, is it possible this will be a good one to get?
  • sumone666 - June 30, 2014 9:26 a.m.

Dear Cooper, I hope this finds it's way to you. It's only been a week since you left but it feels like a lifetime already. I can't believe this is really happening it seems as if the whole world has gone mad. Hopefully everything is okay with you and we can be reunited before too long.

My Dearest Cooper: The days go by, yet your absence in my heart still hangs heavy over me like an unwanted shade. Morale is low, and I do not know how much longer we can hang on. Half the squadron drowned in the trenches last night when we were assailed by a sudden storm, and I myself have been laid low by gangrene due to an injury I received crossing the fields of Saint-Mihiel. It is in my time of recovery that my thoughts turn to you. I cannot hope to understand why you were taken from me by an uncaring force of corporate greed, and I never will. But even though this letter will never reach you, do know what we had will never fade from this Earth. Forever yours, -SpadesSlick PS: PC is my first preference though I will take a 360 code as well.

I passed my last Japanese conversation exam by getting my lecturer to talk to me about One Piece for 20 minutes. He's very passionate about the manga.
  • DarthEnderX - June 28, 2014 10 p.m.

I...LOVE...One Piece. It's funny and is a ton of fun right off-the-bat. And eventually, it get's to be really badass and interesting as well. Though it only builds up those qualities over the course of the series.
  • Tony Wilson - June 28, 2014 11:54 p.m.

Agreed, and it's definitely a commitment if you're trying to get caught up.
  • bobob101 - June 28, 2014 9:06 p.m.

Tony, how do you keep up with one piece? Do you read it or watch it? I read it through my weekly jump subscription personally. Also, do you have a favorite character/arc/devil fruit/fight? I have read every chapter there is of one piece, so I would love to talk about it.
  • Tony Wilson - June 28, 2014 11:53 p.m.

I use MangaPanda to read each week, I'm caught up. Faves are a little tricky...but I love Magellan/Kuma/Akainu/Caesar and their respective powers. Fave arc is probably Thriller Bark, Skypeia, or the current Dressrosa.
  • bobob101 - June 29, 2014 12:45 p.m.

My favorite arc is probably Impel Down, and my favorite devil fruits are the zoo of CP 9. Gotta say that I was really surprised when Sabo popped up, I really didn't think he was alive after that past arc. Do you read other Jump manga Tony?
  • Tony Wilson - June 29, 2014 1:04 p.m.

From time to time, but mainly OP. I read all of Death Note and Dragon Ball (who hasn't?), and some Bleach, Gintama, Hunter x Hunter, Fairy Tail, Majin Tantei Nougami Nuero.
  • bobob101 - June 29, 2014 4:02 p.m.

You sir, are an otaku after my own heart.
  • punishment - June 28, 2014 9:43 a.m.

QOTW: I have no idea what constitutes a Valiant Hearts farewell. So I'll just say goodbye and good luck with your future at EA. And umm...Excelsior or something.
  • SpadesSlick - June 29, 2014 6:27 a.m.

For everyone wondering this. Basically the RadioRadar crew is asking you to write a farewell to cooper in the style of a war letter.
  • punishment - June 29, 2014 12:01 p.m.

Thank you. Maybe I'll give this another go.
  • punishment - July 1, 2014 8:53 p.m.

Just listened to the podcast, and if by some miniscule chance this post was chosen as a winner (I.E. more codes than entries or something) then PS4/3 would be tremendous!
  • BladedFalcon - June 28, 2014 9:30 a.m.

CORRECTION TIME The downward thrust in shovel knight actually woks way more like in Zelda 2 than how it worked in ducktales. Ducktales' allowed you to pogo on any surface whereas SK and Zelda 2 require you to hit enemies to bounce. The guys at Yatch club games are actually responsible for double dragon neon and bloodrayne betrayal, so the assumption in the podcast was incorrect.
