Poliwhirl was Red's first pokemon in the pokemon manga, and it's Satoshi Tajiri's favorite pokemon. And how can you diss Poliwrath in a game where Seaking exists?

The trading card game wasn't fun if you did have friends to play it with. Everyone had the cards, but no one knew how to play. it pretty much came down to if it's shiny it's better.

I EV train my pokemon, it´s not as hard as most people think, in fact, compared to IV training EV training is nothing. Tip: Be PATIENT...

Starting to realise I may be slightly more obsessive of a pokemon player than I ever thought, but yes, I EV Train. In fact, I have something like 100 fully EV trained preferred nature pokemon between my pearl and soul silver carts. My top tip? Check an online pokedex that lists specidic EVs for pokemon (the one on serebii.net is perfect), get a macho brace, and get on with it. It only takes a couple hours per pokemon, so it's not that hard.

I've always thought about EV training, but I've always also been too lazy... It just seems like too much work in my case, as I'm really just a casual Pokemon player, battling my friends that have the games.

What in the shit is EV training? I guess Im too old for this stuff cause Im not following... is this article meant to be sarcastic?

Oddish/Bellossom and Ralts/Gallade are 4 tier evolutions too, not just Poliwag/Politoed like you said in the podcast. And it's Poliwhirl on the cover, not Poliwrath.

I EV train, it's def the best way to train your team. my best tip is to utilize the macho brace and numerous power items to max out stats, also, train two pkmn at once using the exp.share.

Hey pokemon monday. I am a big fan of the show. I still play the game and the card game. i ev train myself (but ivs are a big fat no). i personally dont use a notebook< but that is a good tip. I always use macho brace to ev. it has the same effects as the weight items but doubles evs for everything a better choice. And it is easier to get. so good luck to all. And btw poiltoed is in my top 3 favorite pokemon, and not a bad battle pokemon to boot

Since I didn't play online during my time with Platinum (aside from getting my Kadabra to evolve into Alakazam), I kind of felt that EV training was honestly rather superfluous. I got through the game just fine without having to do the "Poke-Dance of Love" or EV train so meh. Also, if you stare into Poliwhirl's face too long, your face will melt off "Raiders of the Lost Ark"-style >_>

The best tip for EV training I can give is to be flexible. Instead of pinpoint accuracy, just go to a location, like Stark Cave for instance, that has pokemon with desirable EV values and just grind there.

POKESAV!!!! So no I dont ev train I cheat ^__^

Not to complain, but don't be afraid of making your podcast longer. most major podcast are above 1:00 long, and you seem to be wary of breaking 30 minutes! Look at your cousin, TalkRadar: they reach episodes of up to 3:00 sometimes without batting an eye! What I'm trying to say is, I'd love for you guys to fill more than a half hour with PokeTalk; I listen to these at work, and they are too short to really fill my time!

EV training isn't even the tip of the iceberg when you get into the wonderful world of "competitive" Pokémon. I used to EV train, IV breed, the lot... My advice? Don't bother. Once you get into EV training it's a horrible downward spiral of horrible chore after horrible chore.
  • yoshiegg - July 5, 2010 7:26 p.m.

ev training easy as long as you have power items its breeding IVs that sucks i get shinies more then i get decent IVs
  • 510BrotherPanda - July 5, 2010 7:22 p.m.

On that old Time magazine, it doesn't look like Charizard has a flame on its tail, so it will die. Regarding EV training, I don't pay attention to who or what I battle, as long as I faint it fast and my guys/gals don't faint, it's all good. I'm more of a collector than a trainer/breeder anyways.
  • litrock - July 5, 2010 6:37 p.m.

EV training isn't even that hard, way easier and less tedious than the madness that is breeding and trying to maximize IVs. And the bonuses you get are obvious and pretty staggering against opponents who haven't bothered to do the work. I IV/EVed a full team back when D/P came out. Will probably do the same for B/W.
  • Ridgley - July 5, 2010 6:33 p.m.

I haven't looked into EV training because I still haven't built up the stamina to train for my battle with Red.
  • Awesomepants - July 5, 2010 6:29 p.m.

I do the exact same thing for EV training. I always try and pick like the exact moment to tally, such as when i actually get experience but then i still forget if i did it or not.
  • frb527 - July 5, 2010 6:23 p.m.

I just started ev training and its not that bad once you know some tricks like using items like protiens and such for the first 100 evs and power items
