Ever wanted to play Blackjack for your soul? Black Jacket is a demonic deckbuilder where you must earn a ferry ride out of hell
Learn your opponents' back stories and tactics to defeat them, and win the coins that will get you home
Black Jacket is a narrative-driven roguelite deckbuilder set in hell, where you're playing Blackjack against the other damned souls you meet. Defeat enough of them, and win coins for the ferryman, and you can earn passage back to the living world. So... nonstandard rules then.
Unveiled as part of FGS Live From Los Angeles, this obviously isn't your standard game of Blackjack, with decks stacked full of demonic afterlife abilities to bend the cards and rules in your favour. Or turn the table against you. Trapped in the underworld, you'll have to use these abilities to win the coins needed to pay the Ferryman for a safe passage back to life.
You'll be able to stack your deck with powerful cards as you play, that will let you unleash all sorts of abilities as you battle. That includes things like being able to alter your opponents' card values, or take control of their decks. You'll be able to swap cards with enemies if you think you can make good use of them, or find and use things like Artefacts, Curses and special Card Suits to shape the game in your favor.
There's more to this than just the tactical elements of a roguelite deckbuilder as well, with each of your opponents bringing their own tragic backstory to explain why they're there and making their own desperate bid to escape. As you learn about them you'll need to unravel their playstyles and techniques needed to beat them, creating a puzzle like element to their defeat.
As the stories unfold and your deck grows you'll need to work out the tactics, card synergies and playstyles needed to win again and again. All while learning more about the people you need to defeat, whether they deserve it or not - the Ferryman only wants the coins, he doesn't care what you do to get them.
