Welcome to Pokemon Monday, GamesRadar's podcast 100% devoted to all things Pokemon. Step into the bizarre hivemind of several adult Pokemon fantatics each Monday as we bring you a no-frills, raw and unedited passionate Pokemon discussion covering breaking news, events, and whatever else is on our singularly devoted Pokemon brains. No Pokemon-related topic is off limits.

Episode 41 highlights

Pokemon Global Link site officially launches on Wednesday - In the meantime, you can still get your Eeveelution.

4Kids Entertainment files for bankruptcy - We discuss (sort of) what this could mean for the Pokemon anime.

Pokemon of the week: Jolteon - Pokemon Monday listeners have spoken, and Jolteon is the most popular choice for favorite Eeveelution. Jolteon can take full advantage of the brand-new move Volt Switch, so there's even more reason to love this pure Electric type in B&W.

Question of the week: What's your favorite starter of all time?

See you next week!

Fav Starter. Last form. Swampert. First. Totodile, he just looks powerful yet cute. Power Rangers is back on here in Canada on Teletoon retro!

My favourite starter has to be Torchic for so many reasons: 1. The thing is FRIGGIN' adorable! 2. It evolves into one of the best type combonations of it's time (concidering three of them in a row have been Fire/Fighting). 3. As much as I love how Sceptile looks, I gotta say that Blaziken is one of my favourite pokemon designs of that generation.

Piplup, hands down. It combines a traditionally special attack type (water) and Physical type (steel). they balance him/her for many situations.

if evolutions count then its blaziken all the way, if it's only the first form then i'll pick any of the water starters. And Umbreon for the eeveelution, he was such a pain in the ass to deal with and so awesome to use once i got the chance.

Totodile. I love that little guy more than any other starter ever.

Although yellow was my first game I don't think pikachu is my favorite starter. Totodile ftw. Charmander is my least favorite. I hate that crappy mon. Give me pikachu over that any day.

Okay I feel like I have to get this off of my chest. Gen V has for whatever reason decided to majorly screw over berries. Now maybe this is because some berries are rare, only event obtainable, and do some amazing things, and they thought this gave some unfair advantages. However, I think it's my rightful advantage to use berries like the rowap or liechi berries because I spent the time to obtain these berries from events or by other means. I don't know if the pokemon people are planning to slowly give us access to these wonderful items, in which case there would be no problem, but right no it irritates me that they have ripped one of the more strategic items right out of the game for seemingly no reason. Now a theory arises that they made items non-transferable because those pesky one use TMs don't fit into Gen V, but they made pokemon with HM moves un-transferable. How hard could it be to program the game so pokemon holding TMs can't be transfered. My plethora of now "stuck in Gen IV" items that I can't use irritates me, but theyre replaceable. Its the berries. Give me my berries.

My first game ever was Platinum, and I chose piplup. Now I moved it over to Heartgold, Leveled it up to 100, and then brought it to White. Even if Emopleon isn't the best, it still means a lot to me! If your reading this, can you say something in your next podcast about how Pokemon is NOT for 5-year-olds and that it requires lots of strategy thinking and stuff. Most of the people at my school say that pokemon is weird and stupid and that Call of Duty is sooooo much better.

No love for Glaceon... Favorite starter would have to be Squirtle. Because he's just a turtle at first. Simplistic.

By the way, I wanted to drop some knowledge in here that 4Kids hasn't been doing the Pokemon anime for about 4 years now, I think. So the show will certainly be safe.

@MattofSteel you do realize that you could get all of the starters in Yellow without cheating or trading? And as for your question, I do a little of both. For moves that have at least some power, like surf, or some strategy, like dive or fly, I will use them on some of my main members. All the useless ones I just put on a super weak pokemon.
  • MattOfSteel - April 13, 2011 4:51 p.m.

For Blue I went Bulbasaur and played through legit, but for Yellow I hacked it so I had all three of the original starters along with Pikachu ... because as a dork I wanted the team Ash used in the show. I also like Volt Switch but it does have one major weakness compared to U-turn. If you are fighting a ground type they will be immune to Volt Switch and thus will not only do zero damage but won't activate the switching. Nothing is fully immune to Bug so I still prefer U-turn as my hit and run move of choice for my scout (currently Volcarona). If I could ask a couple questions ... do you prefer to go through the post game with an HM drone (probably a water type to load up on Waterfall, surf, and dive) or do you spread the HMs around so your team doesn't have a dead weight member? And if you like using a drone, which ones do you think are the best choice?
  • rampagingraptor - April 13, 2011 4:01 a.m.

Without a doubt, Charmander. Bulbasaur might have been my first starter pokemon ever, but Charmander eventually became my favorite after I restarted my first pokemon game. Ever since, I would do whatever I could to get a Charmander in any pokemon game so that I could use it from the very beginning. I was also delightfully surprised when I played the pokemon mystery dungeons and both times got Charmander just by answering the questions truthfully! :D also, I think that Glaceon is awesome, but that is mainly cause it fits nicely as the ice type in my team.

My favorite starter of all time would have to be Chimchar. His last form is a beast!!! My second favorite is Charmander.
