PlayStation 3 breaks 5 million sales mark in UK, Sony celebrates with cake

Big numbers deserve big cake

Sony’s in an upbeat today, and with good reason. The console maker has announced that PlayStation 3 has now sold more than 5 million in the UK since its launch 5 years ago.

The numbers are undoubtedly impressive, but it does highlight the fact sales of PS3 have been significantly slower in the UK compared to its PlayStation 2 predecessor, which hit the 5 million mark after just 3 years in service.

But let’s not be party poopers. It’s a significant milestone for Sony and PS3. And we’re happy because Sony sent us cake to celebrate. This is the cake being sliced:

The cake is rudely buttery and sugary and delicious and we are going to eat it all.
