Updated: Okami coming to PS3 in HD remaster, supports Move

Some amazing news today for Okami fans, as it has been revealed that an HD re-release is currently in the works at Capcom. The touch of not-so-amazing news though is that this has not yet been confirmed for release in North America.

While that's not disconcerting yet, as the confirmation comes from a Japanese source, it wouldn't hurt to break out the stationery and write Capcom a pleading letter to show your support. The original release did not perform spectacularly, so it's certainly not out of the question that Capcom might forego a North American release this time.

Little is known about the title at this point, however we do know that the game will include PlayStation Move support, similar to the Wii version of the game that released in 2008. Also, Famitsu and Andriasang have quoted the game at 3990 Yen, which would indicate a Western cost of $40 if it does get released here. They're also listing a November 1 release date.

We'll have more on this story if we get confirmation from Capcom or word of a North American release. HD collections of treasured PS2-classics are all the rage these days, so it's still possible.

UPDATE: Capcom has just issued a confirmation. Okami HD will be releasing on PSN later this year, and the news is even better than we thought. Rather than the $40 we had assumed based on the Japanese price...it will instead be launching at a mere $20. They've also issued a launch trailer which can be seen below:

    You do realize that Xbox (Microsoft) and iPhone (Apple) compete against each other. Surely you can't support can you Mr. Jobbs?

    I've noticed how in every one of your comments you note how Microsoft and Apple are the best. Yet, from the average hardcore gamers perspective (definition: not you) those are the worst two companies. And plus, bring on the HD remakes! I'll never get enough of titles like Shadow of the Colossus and Okami, and the $20 price point makes it all the better!

    Don't feed the trolls... Even the shitty ones who need it.

    Okami is possibly the only game that I would buy a trophified, HDed up version of, after having played the original when it came out. It was awesome, and Okamiden let me down, so I'd love to play the original again, and earn trophies for all the time Id put in again.

    Sweet! Though I don't think I have the time to play it all over again. I probably might just buy it just to show proper support for the game. Or they could include okaminden... Altough Nintendo might not be okay with that.

    I have the wii version and gave up after T'dar went on about how huge that game is. I loved it but unfortunately I don't have that kind of time to put into videogames anymore. Seriously that game seemed friggin huge and this is coming from someone who has 100% every Zelda ever!
  • BladedFalcon - June 19, 2012 8:33 p.m.

    It didn't seem huge, it WAS a huge game XD Which is why even though I loved it, I really have no intention of re-playing it any time soon, maybe ever >>;

    And once again, I won't have the right system to play it on. Maybe I'll pick up Okami-Den instead.

  • Nap1400 - June 19, 2012 5:34 p.m.

    Just hope it gets ported to the Wii U at some point. Honestly, that gamepad is MADE for this game.
  • Sparky035 - June 19, 2012 5:40 p.m.
