New Red Dead Redemption DLC zombifies the Wild West, also undead grizzlies FTW

If there was one thing Rockstar’s incredible Western adventure was lacking, it was zombie armadillos. Thankfully, the upcoming Undead Nightmare pack looks set to put that little omission right. Below, you’ll find out all the details of this new single-player DLC, which will see everyone’s favourite tortured outlaw John Marston trying to find a cure for a zombie plague that’s spreading across the Old West.

Above: Prepare for Red Dead to get a whole lot deader

The coolest developer on the planet says the new pack is primarily a single-player adventure and will see the game’s shanty towns and cemeteries come alive with zombie cowboys. New mythical creatures are also promised, along with zombie animals. Honestly, if you’re not excited about the prospect of hunting rotting bobcats, you’re officially dead inside.

Above: Man, the zombie bobcat community are going to be on our asses after this little indiscretion

Undead Nightmare will also include right new multiplayer zombie characters, new single-player challenges, quests and dynamic events. The pack will set you back 800 MS Points or $9.99 on PSN (we’d guess £7.99 for peeps in the UK). Expect it to be released sometime near Halloween.

If you can’t wait until then to get back in the saddle, you’ll probably want to check out the Liars and Cheats pack, which gets released tomorrow. It may not have brain-eating armadillos, but it does have multiplayer horse racing and a new Explosive Rifle.

Rockstar WTF

Mythical creatures huh? I smell a bigfoot.
  • donutman7 - September 20, 2010 10 p.m.

You guys just don't understand that zombies are what people asked for. So you and your one or two friends don't like the fact that the zombie bandwagon is coming to rockstar, the many other players have been asking for zombies for a while now. Rockstar isn't going to make a DLC for one or two groups, they want to make one that is pointed towards the bigger community, and it's not like its required to buy it. The game itself is good enough.
  • akapellah21 - September 20, 2010 9:55 p.m.

they could have definitely did some "From Dusk Till Dawn" type of scenario. That woulda been fucking AMAZING. Good thing John is back though, even if it's non-canonical, it's still cool to play as him instead of hearing Jack's annoying ass voice
  • Xtapolapopotamus - September 20, 2010 7:46 p.m.

Zombified old west? This may make me pick up the game again. FUUUUUUUUUUCK YEAH!
  • Spocksjock - September 20, 2010 2:34 p.m.

I hope a stampede of all the horses you kill during the game come back to life and attack.
  • thejadefalcon - September 20, 2010 2:32 p.m.

@acridweasel @Games_Radar_DaveMeikleham Oh, okay, thanks! I came here via Facebook, so I didn't see that. I've seen it now.
  • FenrirKar - September 20, 2010 1:51 p.m.

Maybe John Marston IS a zombie!?
  • thejadefalcon - September 20, 2010 11:14 a.m.

There's a picture of a bear? Where? Either it hasn't loaded for me or SOMEHOW you confused a bear and a bobcat (despite even the caption).
  • TheLefty - September 20, 2010 7:49 p.m.

This doesn't sound like enough to warrant 800 Microsoft points to me...but that's just my opinion.
  • stickguy259 - September 20, 2010 7:03 p.m.

Now don't get me wrong, because I absolutely love zombies, and everything that has to do with them. I am firmly placed on the aforementioned zombie bandwagon. BUT! I think they could have taken a more grounded approach towards horror for a haloween themed DLC. Instead of zombiez, I think it'd be cool to have Marston hunting down a serial killer of some sort, one with creepy cult-like followers. It would have given R* the chance to create a bizarre and creepy story that could happen in a place like the wild west. Of course I loves me some zombies, so you won't hear me complaining about this DLC pack :) Also, I have a feeling that our favorite snake oil salesman may have something to do with all of this undead business. I dunno, just a thought.

    Jumping the shark?
  • bluscorp - September 20, 2010 5:09 p.m.

I cant wait, This is will be zombies done right.
  • garnsr - September 20, 2010 4:28 p.m.

I'm looking forward to another single player section, I just wish it had come out this summer, when I had enough time to 100% GTA IV, instead of around the time that the games start coming back.
  • Tomsta666 - September 20, 2010 4:18 p.m.

I appreciate all the DLC love game has been getting, but seriously? Only one pack geared towards single player? I absolutley loved the single player story. Couldn't give a monkey's uncle about the multiplayer. Finally, the single player add-on is almost here, and what do we get... zombies. Fucking zombies! like CARDYKEV said, it's just zombie bandwagoning, and you would expect better from the R*. The same company that brought us the EPIC single player DLC's Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony. I expected a bit more tbh...
  • CARDYKEV - September 20, 2010 3:24 p.m.

I don't really get the whole Zombie Bandwagon thing and i didn't think i would see RockStar on it
  • spawny0908 - September 20, 2010 2:55 p.m.

Please say you can switch from zombie to regular single player. If so then great but don't ruin this already beautiful game with the whole "Zombies!!! Add zombies!! Zombies always sell!!" Thing. Keep the two separate please.
  • Seabread - September 20, 2010 2:03 p.m.

@ TRAVthe3RD Why would you WANT to play as that snivelling little prick? John is awesome, Jack's just.... awful! Can't bring myself to pay for any of the DLC. none of it seems worth it.
  • Games_Radar_DaveMeikleham - September 20, 2010 11:47 a.m.

@TRAVthe3RD Considering how seriously RDR takes its narrative, I'd imagine Undead Nightmare will almost definitely be a non-canon spin-off. It's just Rockstar having a bit of 'zany' fun, innit?
  • Games_Radar_DaveMeikleham - September 20, 2010 11:44 a.m.

@thejadefalcon I done made an image of a zombified bear for the front page. This is what Yingsin is referring to.
  • TRAVthe3RD - September 20, 2010 11:44 a.m.

so does this expansion disregard the ending of the main story completly?? i dont know why they didnt use jack instead i only got to use him for a a little bit before i got a hundred 100%
