Happy Alien Day, everyone! What better way to celebrate April 26 (as in LV-426, a planet featured in the Alien films) than to bridge the gap between the events of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and his upcoming sequel Alien: Covenant?
Prometheus ends with only two survivors. Noomi Rapace’s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw commandeers an Engineer’s ship and, along with the head of Michael Fassbender’s android David, continues her quest to find whoever created the mysterious Engineers in the first place. But Shaw has been largely absent from Alien: Covenant’s trailers so far, and we haven’t been exactly sure what happened to her in between the two movies. Thanks to this prologue, now we know - and I suspect we’ll be seeing her make a cameo when the new ship Covenant arrives on that lush green planet with a whole new crew in tow.
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, James Franco, Danny McBride, Demian Bechir, and more, Alien: Covenant arrives in theaters on May 12, 2017 in the UK and May 19, 2017 in the US. Is Katherine Waterston’s character related to Ripley? Will Covenant follow the 7 rules necessary for it to be a true Alien movie? We’ll find out very soon.
